Lower - New Frontier LW15 $168 (incl tax, DROS, DOJ, BB, etc.)
Upper - DelTon 20" A3 $411 (incl shipping, etc.)

Total $579
Total w/MagPul MOE $614

I found some MagPul MOE rifle length hand guards at STS Guns in Folsom (new store) for $35 - cheapest I had seen even online so I picked them up.

I had a Vortex SPARC laying around so I mounted that too.

Took it down to Sac Valley today - put about 300 rounds through it - a mix of PMC and Federal 5.56 Nato ball.

I'm still learning to shoot precisely (as I can) with a co-witness red dot but I can shoot timed/rapid fire into a 2-inch hole at 50 yards all day (and better if I take more time and do my job). No issues of any kind with the LW15 lower. The BB was very stiff at first but after the 10th or so mag removal it seemed to loosen up and eject spent mags with more authority. I also noticed that many of the empties ejected forward. I had never seen that before.

The MagPul MOE helps with the weight distribution but it is a little front heavy with the polymer lower and a 20" upper. Not a problem - just a little different.

Trigger may not be 4.5# but it is pretty close - also exceptionally crisp with very little over travel. I like it a lot. It's better than the upgraded trigger on my M&P15T.

Overall I'm very pleased. Still planning on putting a 3X9 scope on for field use.

Do you have a handguard removal tool?

Removing and installing 2 piece handguards without one is a pain.

Where did you get the lower?

New Frontier Armory is where I bought mine. Had a problem with the trigger not resetting. I called New Frontier and they sent me a new trigger control group. I need to install it and try it out. It's does appear of good quality and is made well.

Over the last few days, I've been involved in a debate about these lowers on another forum. They (the majority of the members there) are more of the hard core AR-15 crowd. They refuse to see that there is a good market for the LW15.

my trick to removing handguards is using a pair of channel locks. wrap the delta ring between the rubber covered legs with them, squeeze and pull down. Works every time.

The videos on their site with the crush tests vs. aluminum lowers were pretty powerful.

If I have issues (hope to take it out tomorrow) I will email Guido their CEO and ask for a new FCG. So far it seems to cycle well (dry fire - no ammo)

My other configuration will be with a 3X9 scope. With MOE handguards this will be a (relatively) light rig to carry in the field and I'm anxious to try it on coyotes.

Looking forward to hearing about your first range trip. I'm doing one similar to yours, my Del-ton midlength upper came in yesterday and I will be picking up my LW15 lower thursday.

I guess that means you got your directly from NFA then.

We'll be giving away a complete LW15 lower soon and Guido mentioned that NFA is giving away a full rifle this month as well. The LW15 is selling very well and the problem with the trigger group has been addressed.

Sorry - didn't mean to misquote.

Happily got my LW15 from Sac Black Rifle - the guys there are great.

I had been emailing back and forth with NFA prior to my purchase and let them know that I had pulled the trigger.

If I have any issues, I will contact them for help with the FCG. I also want to give a shout out to Action Guns in Rancho Cordova - they've been a great help with my Mini 14 and first AR (S&W MP 15T). Great guys who focus on getting you set up for whatever you want to do.

How do you like the lower? I had my budget build with a plum crazy polymer lower and couldn't be happier. Im always going to use polymer because of how light weight and reliable it has proven to me to be. For the hand guard you can get a removal tool as people stated above. Ive never used one myself, I just use my hands. Nice looking build keep it up!!

Thanks for the clarification. The reason I asked was because of what you said you paid:

"Lower - New Frontier LW15 $168 (incl tax, DROS, DOJ, BB, etc.)"

Please forgive my ignorance as I'm obviously not a CA resident. I'm curious as to how the rest of it adds up. Sales tax I get and I assume the BB is for the background check. It's the other things that are foreign to me. DROS, DOJ, Etc...

If anybody who owns an LW15 would like to assist in writing a review for it, please PM me.

I don't have my receipt handy, so forgive my best effort to quote accurately:

Lower (complete) $100
Bullet Button (BB) $34 (free install by SBR)
DROS $15
CA DOJ (2 fees) $10
Sales tax $8

TomD: U BE DA MAN and stuff!

Thanks for the hint....went back and tried it again -0 you have to "guide" the top rail into the front sight housing first and then move it down while moving the delta ring back.

used channel locks and it worked like a charm to remove the stock guards and then install the MagPul MOE's.
