View Full Version : Glock (.40) or SA 1911 (.45)?

This is pretty much a loaded question! You knew it when you clicked the thread, come on!

So I have a family member that is going through tough times and offered to sell his SA 1911 Trophy Match to me. I can probably get it for around $700 which seems like a good deal ($1,300 new).

I have two concerns...

(1) My main pistol ammo is .40 and i have several pistols & a bunch of ammo in that caliber. Buying a gun in .45APC is going to make me buy another type of ammo that isn't standardized for my arsenal. I liked how one caliber fit all my pistols, this could screw that up.

(2) Another thought was the money factor: if i HAD to part with this cash i could easily buy another Glock 22/23 (used LEO trade in for $350ish) and 1000 rds of .40 cal ammo for the same price. It would stay in .40 which is handy, and having an extra Glock & more universal ammo could be helpful (two Glock's is one, one is none).

The fact that its a good deal for the SA 1911 complicates things. I could always buy it and just sell it off at a profit, but i know i'd want to keep it for fun. God forbid i like the caliber better and then need to sell off all 40S&W toys and ammo for new .45APC counter parts!

The SA 1911 Trophy Match would be fun but I don't need it... but since its relatively cheap... I kinda do. Or do I?

Get the 1911. If you don't like it then sell it. That's too good of a deal to pass up.

1911....it just makes too much sense. Besides, no one says you have to stock tons of ammo.

The only real ? is:

Do you WANT the SA 1911 Trophy Match?

If you don't really want it, then pass on it.

On the other hand if you know he really likes it and would want to keep it, you could as a favor, buy it from him, never shoot it, and sell it back to him at a later time.

If after a period of (say) 1 year or he doesn't want it back, then shoot it and see if you like it, or sell it "for a profit".

You don't really need a 2nd Glock unless it's a duty weapon.

Since your family member is on tough times, sell it here for market for him/her.
Does not sound like you even want it nor the caliber.

1911! If you're an American, then you'd get it. Go USA!!!

Why the obsession with one caliber..?.

Of course for $700 you should get the .45.

Also, get some 9MM handguns. Having handguns in different calibers is a GOOD thing.

Get a .22 as well.

Be well, Bob

Get a 1911 in .45 and diversify your calibers. :)

instead of buying the 1911 you should buy a lone wolf 9mm barrel and mags so you can shoot 9mm through the g22.
a .45, .40 or 9mm will all take down a zombie with no problems. the 9mm will do it cheaper.
