View Full Version : Buds won't sell me an M1A Scout Squad?

I ordered an M1A Scout Squad from Buds Guns Shop. Later in the day, I got an email saying that my order was cancelled because the rifle needs to have a "CA" parts number.

I managed to speak to a live person this morning, and they affirmed that the rifle could not be sent, because it is not on the "California DOJ compliant list". The guy on the phone knew we were talking about a rifle and mentioned a list a couple times.

As far as I know, the M1A Scout Squad is California legal, there is no special model for the California market, and there is no list of California rifles maintained by the DOJ.

Can anyone provide any insight into what happened?

Odd since it seems to be CA legal as is; no pistol grip, no flash hider, and has a ten round mag. But the SA catalog does mention a CA specific scout squad model. Lists the standard model as featuring a "proprietary muzzle stabilizer", sounds like a muzzle brake? http://www.springfield-armory.com/assets/pdf/SPRINGFIELD_Book_armory_AA9126.pdf
*For California legal models the part number is AA9126CA.

Is it this part number listed below?

Jim,

Thank you for your interest in our Scout model. The AA9122CA is not a legitimate part number, it should be AA9122 as the rifle ships with a muzzle break and is CA legal.

Have a great day!

I think all Scouts come with muzzle breaks and are CA legal.

No model number on the website at this moment. Other M1As on the site have model numbers.

Logged into my account, and no model number shown, just a description.
But other than different stocks, the scout squad is only available in one configuration.

Here's the CA version on buds. Not sure this is on Bud's. Check out the link to springfield armory, they do have a CA specific model for some reason.

Sounds like CA OK to me but I bet you won't be able to convince them without the CA suffix.

Before I bought it, I thought I compared the model number to the one on the SA website. I think that was it.

I had heard that before. I guess they won't be siphoning off my business from Davidson's.

True. It's not like their full size M1A where there's a CA OK and a CA not OK version. All Scouts come with the CA OK brake, similar to how all SOCOMs come with a CA OK brake.

There is a part number for the scout for CA as far as I know. And I also know tht Buds guys are a bunch of knuckle heads. Will never do business with them.

For the record, there is no CA DOJ compliant list for rifles. Just another nonsense answer from Buds.

Yes Bud's blows. I canceled my VIP membership with them when they wouldnt ship a gun to an out of state FFL that was going to SSE it and send to a CA FFL. They said "your address is in CA" and I told them that didn't matter and to ship the gun to another state. The wouldnt budge so they arent getting my cash.

That's the :icon_bs: I ran into. I won't be doing anymore business with Dud's. When I bought my Scout Squad, I gave my money to grabagun.com.

if they are waiting for a california approved rifle they are in for a long wait

ask them to point out any other california approved rifles and ask for the paperwork proving it for your safety as a customer you dont want to buy a non california approved rifle

i just love turning the tables on dumas with their own words

Have a member of Cal guns legal contact them. Then see what they say. Sometimes it's a matter of education and not just interpretation of the law.

This isn't the first time someone has had this issue with them, they don't care. People have tried educating them, they don't care.

Go to a business that's actually willing to take your money.

Last time I spoke with someone at Bud's, that person informed me that all Scout Squad's are CA legal. The standard length M1A's need a CA parts number.

The wouldnt budge

That sounds a little bit like Brownells.com. I get law enforcement pricing with no problems what so ever, but I tried to order a 20 round magazine and all of a sudden they say "we can't send you that with out a letter from on letter head from your agency, then we have to send the mags to your work to that supervisor that wrote the letter so they can give it to you." No matter how much I tried to explained to them I could walk in any local shop and get a 20 round magazine with no problem, they weren't hearing it. So off to the local shop I went.

Heck, one store near here sells 30 round magpul magazines all day long to anyone that comes thru the door, LE or not. If you're not LE, they just take it apart and hand it to you in pieces.

Thanks guys for all the responses, options, alternatives, and for sale offers. It is all much appreciated. Calguns is the best.

For this foolishness, Buds has lost my business. This would have been my first purchase with them. And I am no stranger to online gun purchases. There are plenty of companies to deal with that make the transaction much smoother, and deserve the support of my business.

Buds used to have some decent prices... but you basically saved because you didn't have to pay tax. Now with the new BS in CA where you have to pay tax on a FFL transfer anyhow, add to that the cost of an FFL transfer... you don't really save anymore.
