Ok guys, I need some advise....

I've been shooting Glock's for a long time now and I am going to start shooting my 1911 again and I want to find out what the latest and greatest holsters and mag pouches are.

I shoot a lot of tactical pistol and defense training, so I need something that will draw quick, but will also have a good weapon retention on it. Kydex or leather is fine with me. Also looking for a belt attach style OWB and IWB. No drop leg or paddle holsters. I am thinking a Crossbreed Holster for the IWB.

I have a really nice looking Kimber Eclipse that I am worried about messing up the finish on with a lot of use so that is also a concern.

Any suggestions???

Serpa!!:chris:

Actually, I've never seen a holster that doesn't wear the finish. So good luck finding one.

I thought Serpa's have a manual release, thus making it a slower draw? I don't have any personal experience with them.

I have a comp-tac for OWB concealed carry and training use, and a crossbreed supertuck for IWB concealed carry use.

It really depends on your needs.

When used properly by experienced shooters it will slow the draw by less that 1/10 of a second. When used improperly you might shoot yourself. (google it for video of both instances)

Thanks!

What you indicated is enough for me to stay far away from them, especially since there is no (listed) benefit over the other holsters, that I am aware of.

"Experienced" shooters won't be slowed much....

I forgot to mention that its a Eclipse Pro so it is a Commander size 1911. Will the Safariland work with the shorter barrel?

I use a Safariland ALS with my Glocks now and love it. The suede lining also seems like it will help protect the finish of the weapon.

the websites lists the Safariland for a full size government 1911. I'd call/email to make sure a commander size 1911 will fit though.

I use the safariland 568 holster and 572 magazine holder for my Kimber Custom 2 and mags. They offer good retention, fit, ease of draw and their both paddles so ease of equiping and removing are very nice.. Extremely nice products for the prices.

I use the Wilson Combat kydex with a suede liner. Just put a little leather lightning on the inside to speed up your draw and you don't have to worry about scratching your finish.

That Wilson Combat looks like the way to go. Any chance you can post a couple of pics of the inside of the holster?

What is the weapon retention like?

Sure, here ya go. I also put some of this on the inside to speed up the draw of the suede lining.

It has a screw so you can adjust the retention to your liking.

Take a look Garret Industries...they make a great leather lined kydex...adjustable retention. LOVE mine. Small guy, great work look at Champion for OWB and silent thunder for IWB...http://garrettindustries.mybigcommerce.com/belt-holsters-owb/

That's not IDPA approved .... he stated he shoots tactical pistol matches so I assume it's IDPA. As for the Wilson Combat that's similar to the Safariland but it's not a paddle, its twice as expensive and it's some funky Kydex exterior......

You are assuming. No where does it say IDPA or anything about "matches".

"Which holster is best" is almost as ambiguous as "which 1911 is best?"...

It depends, what type of shooting do you do, what is your body type, how do you normally dress, is this a CCW holster or a range holster, does your work day include mostly sitting, blah blah blah. Everyone is going to have a different opinion, and none of them will be wrong.

That said, to add my $.02 for a CCW or IDPA holster, the Milt Sparks VM II is absolutely top notch. I've used a lot of holsters over the years and never been quite as happy with any of the others.

depends on your goal

there are factors

by definition a holster is a device to hold a pistol on your person duh i know but then there are the factors

concealability
protection
speed of draw
retention
comfort
durability

i use a cheapo fobus at the range

its comfortable it retains it well its speedy to draw but its not durable it offers little protection from bumps and scratches(like a leather full flap)

I noted in my first post that I shoot a lot of tactical and defensive training. Also that I am looking for something that will draw fast and have good weapon retention while protecting the finish of the weapon.

Thats about all the criteria I have for a selection at the moment. I was looking for suggestions based on that info.

Thanks for all the suggestions though. I went with the Wilson Combat and I will post my thoughts once I put it to use.

Just picked up my Kimber Eclipse Pro and put it into my Wilson holster. LOVE IT!

Holster fits amazing and draws nice and smooth with great retention. Wilson mag pouches are also amazing.

Very happy with all my purchases.

Thanks for the great tips!
