I've been considering getting my hunting liscence... except the only guns I have atm are more for larger game and well more for people than game.

My SKS, FN PBR, Interstate SxS 12ga, oh and 2 large caliber cheap C&R bolts would destroy a rabbit.

I'm thinking for a 17 HMR or a Saiga 223 for rabbits. Any input?

Tikka T3. I love mine. :D

.223 will destroy rabbits too though. If you are just going after bunnies and squirrels, I'd say get a .22lr.

Do the .17hmr. I think that's going to be my next rifle. I've wounded too many squirrels with the .22 even with solid shots. Plus the .17 is a true 100yd. gun. .223 is a bit much for rabbits if you want to eat it.

I wish Kimber made one. I think I'll probably end up getting a CZ.

The .17 HMR is the perfect rabbit/squirrel/rodent gun.

you can buy my 77/22 (22mag) over in the for sale thread, and if you want you can retrofit it with a hmr barrel from Midway (http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/browse?TabID=9&Categoryid=11651&categorystring=10636***10560***9142***) and have yourself one of the best 100 yard varmint guns around (and in two calibers.)

I too have a Tikka T3 223, its a great gun, but will blast rabbits into tiny pieces. You can use your shotgun if you want to jump rabbits, you hardly get any damage on rabbits with the right load. If your going to glass them, then the 17 is your gun....

I shoot a Savage .22-250, my roommate has a .204 Ruger and .17 HMR. All of these are great varmint calibers. The hummer shoots real flat and is great to 150yds. It kinds sucks when it gets windy or starts raining. The 17 grain bullets get knocked around easy. The .204 and .22-250 both shoot flat and are heavy enough to shoot out to 300+ even in the wind, with minor adjustments. I like how I can zero at 100 and with small adjustments I can be on target at 200 and 300, even 400.
