View Full Version : What would you choose???

Hey,

As we all know, Turners is running their sale on what many will consider the 3 most popular 9mm choices. After shooting a Glock yesterday, I must have a polymer frame pistol. So lightweight compared to what I currently own. Comes down to:

* Glock 17 or 19
* S&W M&P 9
* Springfield XD9

Question: If you did not have either of the 3, which would you see as the best value? What would you choose?

Just curious...thanks.

Shoot them and see what you like best. If you cant shoit them then hold each. I would probably get the M&P9

Glock 17 :)
Readily available parts and accesories almost EVERYWHERE!
Can repair and maintain very easy
Stood the test of time, proven.

That said, the M&P9 and XD9 are also creat pistols, I owned an XD45 and loved it, shot very well.
Just sold it off to fund other projects at the time.
All in all, you cant go wrong with either 3, handel/fondle all of them and see which one fits your hand better.

Either way, you'll be leaving the store with a solid 9mm pistol at a good price.

Glock or M&P. Between those two, it doesn't matter.

the M&P is unstoppable, I'm a Factory Armorer for both the Glock and S&W. hands down the M&P

Glock. Even though the trigger isn't great I think it's better than the M&P.

I would choose the weapon that fit my hands the best.

If they all fit my hands the same and I shot the same with all three I would go with the Glock 19. I like the ergonomics of the Glock and the availability of any aftermarket parts I can think of.

I have a Springfield XDM 9mm and a standard XD45 on order, so my vote goes there. I don't like the look or feel of either the Glock or M&P. Functionally, they're all as near as makes no difference for most shooters.

Best value is very subjective.
I tend to favor a better trigger than a better grip, but have to be at least comfortable with both.

G17/19 right now (so today my vote goes here).

Get XD's when Springfield has the magazine promotion (end of the year, pretty sure they will do it again this year).

M&P trigger does not cut it (not going to spend more on a apex).

I have ONLY shot the glock so far. I held an XD9, felt good as well. No experience at all with the M&P.

Glock 19.

Runs 100%
Can be overhauled in 6 minutes by anybody
will take G17 or G18 magazines (17 and 33 round)
A wealth of aftermarket sights available
You can go swimming with it and it will still run 100%
Bury it in the mud for 2 years, dig it up and it will run 100%
Yes, it's ugly. But it won't cheat on you.
Always worth $500.
Will feed dirty ammo out of mud puddle that was made in Siberia.
Small enough to conceal/carry
A perfect grip.
If you don't like the trigger, a $15 connector will fix it
I love the normal capacity 15 round mags. Plenty of firepower.

Be well, Bob

They are all great and reliable. You can not go wrong with any of them.

But I would pick the M&P for the following reasons:

1. You can always get a Glock or XD. They are everywhere. Not so much M&P.
2. M&P features an interchangeable backstraps for ergonomic. The others do not have this feature.
3. And last but not the least, M&Ps are made in USA.

Shoot them. I think it comes down to what feels comfortable to you. I shot all three and in the end I felt like the Glock grip wasn't right for my hand, the M&P felt inferior IMO, and the XD9 felt perfect, so I went with that. But when you talk about those three, it seems like it all comes down to personal preference. But shoot them, and don't buy a Glock just because they are popular.

Your wanting a polymer pistol, don't forget to look at the Sig Pro 2022 9mm... Awesome gun for the $$$

I owned all three at one point. The only one I still have is the M&P.

Love my M&P9. Love the interchangeable backstraps which make the grip fit my hand perfectly.

I have shot all three at the range. Of the three you have listed, the M&P fit my hand the best. That does not mean its the best of the three. It means it was the best for me. You really have to go and shoot all three to find out which you like best.

How about a Glock 34? Buy a GSSF membership and probably get it for close to the sale price of the others. The Sig is also worth a look.

I've shot and owned all three and the Glock was the winner for me by a mile. Go to the range and shoot all of them. Pick the one that's most comfortable and which you shoot the straightest.

Can't go wrong with Glock or M&P.

I bought the XD9 when I was faced with those options - it fit me the best... I went with the 4" service in OD green.

If I was to get a second 9mm and those were my options, I would either get the M&P or an XD9 subcompact ;)

In the end, it should come to what fits the best and feels the most comfortable.... They are all good reliable guns.

Great info everyone! Keep it coming as I will be purchasing one of the 3 by the end of the sale. You guys all make great points and I know this will be a personal preference decision. Nevertheless, you are giving me a lot to think about.

I'll have to wait to DROS, but I'll lock in the price.

Can't go wrong with Glock or M&P.

I agree with the 2 posters that said this.

If M&P, then get one w/out the internal lock and manufactured after Sept 2011.

Glock - either 17 or 19 3rd gen only.

I'm primarily a Glock shooter, but may switch over to M&P as primary one of these days.

Overall, if it's reliable, I feel the M&P is the better gun. It's just hard to argue with the reliability of 9mm Glocks.

Spend some time shooting them before buying.

PLEASE don't feel pressured by the sale. Turner's has these guns on sale every 2 months or so.

But I do want to try an m&p 9, supposed to be great guns.

All three, even though all have very strong supporters you really will not be wrong with what ever one you pick. I have four Glocks an XDm, XD and recently got my first M&P. Only two are 9mm the rest .40. Handle all three dry fire and make your pick.

The XD seems to be the best for the price and the dealers pay around $380.00 or less for them. But then you have to see which fits the best. They all work!

I went with the xd... Because the ergo's fall somewhere between my sp2022 and 1911... The 5th can't come soon enough...

I have shot all three but prefer Glock out of all three. That been said, they car close enough I would get which ever has the best discount (that will mean the XD at this time).

I'm shocked as to how many people are pulling for the M&P. I thought it would be a run away for the glock in all honesty. Not because it's better/worse, just seems like everyone here is a satisfied Glock owner.

You guys are awesome by the way, makes me proud to be a Calgunner. You guys are giving me more than enough to make this tough decision.

Wish I could get all 3 and call it a day ;)

actually if you look at your poll numbers it is a runaway win for Glock with the M&P just slightly ahead of the XD. I did not vote, your good either way you go.

I believe the poll represents the overall market penetration of each gun, with the Glock being around forever. They're all good and none are significantly better overall than the others.

Maybe we should only vote if we had significant time on all 3 platforms.

True, Poll shows the Glock over 2 to 1. But, a lot more argument for the M&P than I had predicted.

+5......Glock has been around for what seems like forever and the M&P is really popular right now, so those poll results just represent that. Shoot them and decide for yourself and don't buy something just based on a popularity contest.

Two most unreliable pistols in MY experience are:

HK USP40
Glock 17

That being said, I know they are not junk... I just know nothing will ALWAYS run 100%

To the OP:

I own an XDM9 3.8 so I am a little biased. Great pistol and has been 100% so far. Between the other two, M&P all day. Much more comfortable.

Agreed with Stormvet and others who suggest holding/fondling, maybe renting and shooting each of your choices.

Disagree with a previous poster who states "A perfect grip" regarding the Glock. Would likely be more correct to state "A perfect grip for me"? ;)

Rented several Glocks, several times. Shot them fine, but just not as comfy as an XD for me. Though that may have something to do with being a 1911 user for many many years?

Have FUN and be safe whatever you choose. :)

I just went through this. I ended up getting a M&P 9, get to pick it up tomorrow. All I can say is you'll be happy with what ever you choose. They are great guns. I highly recommend shooting them. Go travel to ranges that rent them. You may like how it feels in your hand but not like how it feels while shooting it. This was how it was for me with the XD. I loved the feel of the gun in hand but did not like the barrel flip while firing it.

For me, it would be a toss-up between the Glock and M&P. In my experience, all the XD's that I've shot needed to be properly lubricated to function reliably, while the M&P and Glock could run dry without any problems.

For me, the M&P is just more comfortable and easier to shoot.

News to me. My two run wet, dry, clean, dirty just like my Glocks or M&P.
