View Full Version : Travelling with locked up AR lower, minus collapsable stock?

I managed to find a way to stick both my AR15 lower and another rifle in my locked case, but the problem is that I've got to take the collapsable stock off the buffer tube in order to fit everything. I'd be keeping the upper and stock in a separate bag that isn't lockable.

So, is this legal? I know that the law doesn't screw around when it comes to AR15 configurations, as far as pistol vs rifle, so I've got to wonder if that comes into effect when it's a completed rifle or not.

I have the feeling that this is one of those grey areas that ends up with some jail time, regardless of legal findings.

When its parts, its parts.

you are fine. Unless Overall length drops below 30 inches to be safe (although a case could be made that once you remove the buttstock it is no longer a rifle, so >26 inches would be fine as well).

Excellent, I can save myself from buying an additional case. Thanks a lot

It's legal. It's not grey. There is no issue.

You're simply transporting rifles in a disassembled configuration. No big deal.
