Well the 10 day wait was WELL WORTH IT! I finally picked up my 1st firearm yesterday from my FFL and can't wait to put some rounds through it! I primarily got the firearm for home defense and it will soon have company (planning on getting a Mossberg 500 soon :43: . The 10 day wait wasn't so bad though... it let me buy some nice accessories like the Streamlight TLR-1 and a Glock Mat! Thanks to everyone on the board who suggested a rail-mounted light. Will definitely come in handy in the extremely rare case I ever need to use the firearm.

You will love this gun - it's a great shooter - picked up my first 19 a few weeks ago at Eddy's Sports in Mountain View.

I don't generally find Glocks exciting - they're like hammers to me - but the 19 turned out to be a great fun little gun to shoot.

thanks! i definately didn't buy the gun for it's looks... but the dependability and durability!

on a side note, i'm looking into buying some ammo... can anyone recommend some good target ammo and also home defense hollow points?

a few brands i've been looking at are:

target ammo - blazer brass, speer lawman, federal american eagle, winchester super-x supersonic, brown bear, federal

hollow point - winchester ranger, hornaday, federak

Target ammo, i use federal 115 grain from walmart im my glock 19. Hollow points, i use Winchester Bonded 9mm +p 124 gr. But im sure any of the major brand hollow points would work fine.

Nice choice on your first pistol!! I was once a Glock hater, until I shot my friends G19 and realized I had an awsome shot/accuracy with it!!

I used to be a Glock-hater myself when they first came out, but now I have four of them, with a fifth on the way. Amazing pistols...if I could only have one gun it would be my G19!

have the 19 and love it. eats any and all ammo no problem. i recommend getting the bulk reloads from bulletman911 from here.
as for HD rounds, try some different at the range and see how each shoots then choose for yourself.

Have fun and practice, practice, practice!

Side note: Whenever I see a full size light such as the TLR-1 on the compact glocks, it looks to big for the gun; how secure is the fit?

The fit is fine, and the mount is secure. Keep in mind that the rail clamp is only so long, and on the 19, the TLR-1's clamp comes in full contact with the rail.

The only downside is you get a lot of smoke and residue on the light itself when firing. Even after 50 rounds, depending on what kind of ammo you're running, it'll get all sooty. Ask me how I know. :p

Get some Speer Gold Dots for HD.

Those seem to be hugely popular.
