Hi folks. A friend (widow) has her husband's 1959 Colt Cobra for a house gun. She would like different grips as it only has a Pachmayer grip extender now.
I can't find any pistol grips that fit the old long grip Detective grip frame.
I think The only one I found would be the huge Pachmayer Presentation grips.
Does anyone know of some options beside Getting a custom set from Herrett?
Thanks in advance.

I think Colt went to the shorter fame before 1971 on the "D" frames. My 1969 Cobra frame did not extend to the bottom of the factory grips like the one you refer to.

This might not answer your question -- I like Badger grips on my D frame Colts.

They are a bit expensive. I'd call first to make sure they'll fit the early frame. Or, email: jim@badgercustomgrips.com I have found Jim Badger willing to alter his grips for special situations that arise.

This Cobra is the last model -- with the shrouded ejector rod. I have Badger rosewood grips on it.

Thanks for the info. Looks like nice grips. I emailed Jim.
This is my 442 Smith with some grips I picked up off ebay. These fit her hand and she likes them, also just could be the difference in the DA pull she likes. Trouble is, those old long handle D frames flare at the bottom and make it hard to fit a custom grip. I mantioned 1971 because most grip manufacturers specify that their grips fit post '71 frames) I think Herrett makes one with the back strap exposed just so they can reduce the size of the grip. She may just have to sell the old dog and get a modern gun that fits her. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c221/JCHiggins/PISTOLS/SW442rt.jpg
