Owning a few Handguns (FNP-9 and S&W 19-4 .357) I have decided to start a project building an AR. I know there is a few threads on this and I did not want to intrude on others. Anyway I do appreciate any time people take to read this and give me some input as I am a noob when it comes to AR's.

Currently I have an Aero Precision lower waiting out the DROS . The biggest questions I have is what is a good lower parts kit that is not junk?

Second I am curious on people's opinions on complete uppers. There are so many I am getting lost.... Looking at .223/5.56 and a reputable manufacturer.

Thank you for your time!

Everything is good but vulcan/hesse. Uppers are all about how much you wanna spend and what you want. Most of the manufacturers have good support and will back their products. Dpms is the one that gets the most complaints. I've used their stuff. It's less refined but so far it all works.

Midwayusa.com had/ has DPMS complete upper for 365.99. Thought that was a great deal. Its nothing special, I think its the Sportical model. Smooth upper (no forward assist or brass deflector). I just bought one for my brother in law, comes in tomorrow.

Only mentioning it because I have one and love it, but check out Bravo Company. They offer many uppers and are a higher quality brand.

I have the DPMS lower parts kit in my Aero Precision lower and it works great so far. I just ended up purchasing a complete upper to put on and called it a day.

I know alot of folks like DPMS because it is an economical LPK that does work. I have a RRA AR15 and I have built a PSA lower (AP Lower) that I used a DPMS LPK to complete it with. The difference between the 2 is night and day. The RRA parts are most definitely more quality parts than DPMS, but you will pay more for it. The DPMS does work, but I do prefer a more quality product than they offer.

As far as complete uppers, Palmetto State Armory (PSA) has some really good prices on a quality product. I recently ordered and M4 Carbine Upper for a CHP. He matched it to a DoubleStar Lower and in his words, he loves the PSA Upper. there have been many good reports regarding the PSA Uppers on other websites. They did have a bad run on QC a few months back, but they supposedly rectified that situation with the employee that was the problem.

I will be purchasing a PSA complete upper this spring for the lower I have built. I will give you guys a review when I get it completed. HTH. :)

Unless I am late ,,,here is a real good link that will help pick out what you are looking for,,http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/492084_AR15_Discussions__FAQ.html and then http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7009 Have at it. The bad thing about ARs are that you can't own just 1. The good thing is they are easy to work on and change parts on and the parts prices are reasonable.

DD or RRA..There are a ton of choices, but 2 quality choices. The Spikes Tactical is cool.

Best advise, TAKE YOUR TIME! If you need any help putting it together, Youtube & CheaperThanDirt Videos really helped me.

Lastly, be very careful when your putting it together, everything was cake for me EXCEPT the roll pins, kind of a tight fit on the JD Machine lower. Get a brass punch set and a rubber hammer, tape is also a plus.

Good luck!

( By the way, there are a bunch of threads on this topic if you search that might answer some questions for you )

I had a similar dilemma a few months ago. After reading and reading and talking to different people I ended up buying LRB lower, RRA 2 stage trigger and A5 buffer and tube from Vltor. A few bells here and there on top of it. Now I am thinking what upper to use - probably LMT but still thinking if it worth to spend $700 for it but a lot of guys are saying LMT worth every penny.
