Well, here are some pics from our pig/pheasant hunting trip in Merced to the Little Bear Creek Ranch (http://www.littlebearcreekranch.com/index.html)

Went with Ivananimal, his brother, xsquid, dulljay, his uncle, and me.

We decided to start the night before with some BBQ to get us in the mood. The place had the waiters/waitresses break into dance about every 20 minutes. I really don' think I need to hear Cotton Eyed Joe ever again in my life.

Food was good though.

We had to get up before 4 to get to the meeting spot my 5am.

Man I hate getting up early.

The land was at the base of the foothills, 18,000 acres worth. And pretty stuff.

Our guide was a really nice young guy named Wes. Him and his pretty girlfriend run the outfit. He led in his truck with one of us and the rest followed in the Expedition. I used to have one but never took it off road. It did really well packed with 5 big guys and a bunch of guns.

We did a lot of walking. Man, I'm glad I brought the Kimber in .308. I hardley noticed it was there. My friends all brought the big guns.

There were some REALLY beautiful parts of the ranch. If I ever win the lotto I'm buying a place like this.

Piggies? Piggies? Where are you piggies?

http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/images/threads/000/198/556/3058005-img_0043small.jpg

Sadly, there were no piggies to be found after driving around almost the entire ranch.

So, then off to do some trap shooting to warm up for the pheasants. Here's my friend showing his mad skillz with the shotgun.

Pheasants? Pheasants? Where are you pheasants?

Luckily the pheasant are planted so we know they are there. :shhh

Well, genius that I am, I figure the modified choke I have in my shotgun might be too tight for the pheasants so I should switch out chokes. Since the only other choke I brought was my IC choke I didn't bother to look before I put it in.

Weeeeeeell, it turns out I put in my turkey choke which is an extra full choke. I shot my at my first bird and it dropped like a rock out of the sky. Normally they flutter a bit, but not this one. Turns out I blew an inch wide hole clear through it entering the hind quarters and exiting the back. Didn't really leave anything left to eat. :(

My second shot at a bird I had my safety on and it got away. I'm really winning the game today. :D

OK, so I got one bird, or what's left of it.

The dog Coco got two all by himself. One he just pounced on and got, the other he snagged out of the air as it tried to fly away.

I was out hunted by a dog.

Here he is with his and the rest of our bounty.

Here we all are at the end of the day. It was dissapointing to not at least see a pig, but it was still great to be out there with friends for the day. They served us a lunch of brats and chili while they cleaned the birds for us. Overall a great day, though man my allergies started kicking my ***.

Thanks again Wes, I know you were really hoping to find some pigs for us, but that's why they call it hunting.

Well, one of us did get some pig, here he is whispering it sweet nothings: :D

 pics. Any recommendations on where I can do some small game hunting close to San Jose? Preferably with my 10/22, I know shotguns only are allowed at upper cotton wood

Try and make friends with a local rancher. Most are more than happy to have someone come out and shoot the ground squirrels.

It was pretty reasonable. I think it depends upon the number going and what hunt you want to do, but for the six of us it was $112 a person plus a bunch more if we killed a pig. The pheasants were included in the price. Give Wes a call and see what he can do for you.

Doesnt everyone? I screened in my sideyard we have 2 doves now. We raised some ducks and guinea fowl. I've had pheasants before. The hens are great they make no noise and lay some of the best tasting eggs.

The cocks like to cackle too much, during a bright moon they will cackle on and off all night.Kind of pisses the neighbors off.
