First time I've seen this sniper rifle with the Syrian military, usually they use Dragunov sniper rifles; but watch the guy with the Radio in this video and see if you can identify that sniper rifle.

It appears to be bolt action, could be of Yugoslavian or possibly made by Iran, your guess?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say its a Steyr SSG 69 with a zip tie on the front of the rifle. The grip angle, recoil pad, and front sight match well enough, and the only other arms the Syrian army issues to its soldiers in a SDM or sniper capacity are the PSL, Druganov, or the Zatsava M91(all of which are very distinctive and semi-automatic.)

There is a pretty good chance its either 7.62 x 51 or 7.9 x 57

They don't chamber the SSG 69 in 7.9x57 from the factory. In a military capacity it should be chambered for 7.62x51mm (the only two other options being .243 Winchester or 22-250 Remington). Unless they rechambered the rifle for some reason my money's on 7.62x51 NATO.

HAHA love the zip ties. I hope he has them torqued to the proper inch-pounds.
