View Full Version : 1911 with glock sights?

Greetings Calgunners,

I have a question regarding 1911 sights that i was unable to resolve from searching the forums. I know the search feature isn't very intuitive, so please forgive me if this has been asked before or has been answered somewhere else. Google is having trouble reconciling "1911" and "glock sights" in the same search string.

I am the owner of a Kimber Custom II with tritium sights. I recently bought a GSG 1911-22. I practice as often as I can, and my girlfriend has joined me on several occasions. We are considering some other purchases, and I brought her to a couple of gun stores to handle as many as she could find.

She decided she wanted one of her own. I want her to find something she will enjoy, instead of what I think she should buy. She has already tried out a browning buckmark, walther p22, beretta 92fs and ruger mark III, so we rented a glock 19.

She really enjoyed the reduced recoil of 9mm, but she didn't like the grip (she said it was too blocky.) She also really enjoyed how light it was, and how the rear sight was a squared white U-shape. She didn't enjoy the square shape of the slide (she's an overhand racker), the trigger safety mechanism, the trigger pull weight, or the grip angle.

So, as personal preference, she decided she wants to get a 9mm 1911 with an aluminum frame.

Now my only problem is do they make sights for 1911s that have a rear U-shape, instead of a three dot or Fiber Optic?

Any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR - Girlfriend likes 1911s, but likes glock rear sights. do they exist?

Fish, thank you very much. I had been searching "U-Shaped rear sights" and getting nothing. Sometimes all it takes is knowing exactly what something is called.

Are all .45 auto sights the same size, dovetail-wise?

if those sights work for you that's great. I couldn't get use too the sights on my g17 so I sold it. well that and the grip width.

No. But there is a "standard" cut, whatever that is. Then there's the RIA, which is different. I'm sure there are others. I'm not a tinkerer. A sight replacement for me would be done by a 'smith and I would probably consult before buying unless the product description specifically stated it fit my particular model. Even then, fitting is often needed.

Back in the day they used to mill the top of the slide to accept an S&W revolver rear sight leaf. :D

You will need to buy a rear sight that is made specifically for Kimbers. Even though the sight "looks" like a standard Novak style, the dovetail is in a slightly different location (due to the firing pin block). Here is one that might work http://www.10-8performance.com/kimber-rear-sight/ , you could also try looking at Brownells or Midway USA websites for other options.
