Today was the opening of the season and I'm wondering if any calgunners bagged a gobbler. If so, please post a pic if you have one. I'm waiting until the initial rush is over. In San Diego it looks like the running of the bulls out there.:p

National Forests or on private land with owner's written permission. Private land is your best bet. Check with your local DFG reps. about hunting public land. You will need a hunting license and an upland game bird stamp. Not to mention all the equipment.

Here is a great resource site:

Just click on the hunting link in the lefthand menu bar, then click on turkeys. It will give you all the info. you need to get started.

Here is the DFG turkey guide:

I went out for a few hours before work yesterday. Didn't even hear any responses to calls. I swear those toms know when openning day is.

I've never had written permission from the landowner. I have a standing invitation with him. Just need to call him to let him know I'll be out there. Is written permission a law?

You are supposed to obtain written permission from private landowners. Here is a link to a printable permission slip from jesses hunting:http://www.jesseshunting.com/permission-slip-1.pdf

It is in the Waterfowl and Upland Game Guidebook. Page 65 left column.http://www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations/06-07-wf-uplnd-lands-regs.pdf Section 2016 of the Fish and Game code.

DFG form "FG 994" is the proper "ENTRY PERMIT FOR HUNTING". This is for hunting on land you do not own.
