I have a RAW Hungarian SA85M that I'm doing the 922r conversion on and I'm ready to buy new furniture for it. I found a nice set of wood made here in the USA but it's marketed as made for Romanian AKs. Here are my questions:

Is there any different between Romanian and Hungarian AKs that would have the wood for one not fit the other?

My SA85M has the original thumbhole stock on it. Was there any kind of modification done to the receiver on these models such that they wouldn't accept the standard military furniture?

Thanks!

No, pretty much the same. The only thing that you may have to fit is the lower hand guard. The Hungarian's have a different variation of the hand guard retainer. You'll know when you get the wood.

I'm not sure but does 922r appily to firearms which were imported prior to it's inception?

No. Preban (pre-1989) does not require 922r compliance. The Hungarian SA-85Ms are unique. They were imported before the 89' ban, modified after (post ban) to comply, and then modified again (model SA-2000M) with a single stack magazine during ATF's 1998 "sporting rules modification".
