I don't know about the scope you are talking about but I like the BDC.
Sight in at 100 yds. using the knobs as any scope. Then loosen the retaining screw and spin the knob to 100. Tighten the knob. Then when shooting farther distances you turn the knob to 2, 3, 4 etc. The scope corrects for your elevation drop. When you want to go back to 100 spin it back.
This is a pretty basic example of how it works.
Plus side is quick to adjust for distance and return to zero.
Down side I don't believe they have the fine adjustment of a target scope. Maybe if you were shooting varmits it wouldn't be the hot hookup.
Another down side most BDC are for a certin weight bullet and barrel length. If you are using something different the knobs will be a bit different. Target size will determine if that matters.
Some scopes come with different knobs for different loads.

You would be better off with two separate units.
The combo units are heavy, and if it breaks or fails to function, you need to send it off.
If you want a laser rangefinder, I hear the new Leica CRF 1200 is the one to get.
