Hey All,

What's your favorite for target shooting between 100-500yds and where do you go to get it? I'm in the LA area and like many that post here, need to make sure I'm not dedicating too much money to gun or my gf will kill me.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Yes, I am looking for ammo for target shooting. Was wondering if people prefer remington over winchester and what grain most people go with. I understand that this can very greatly depending on distance, so feel free to chime in with what you like for which situation.

As for the ammotogo or aimsurplus, are these places local to the LA area? Since I'm in LA county, my understanding is that I can't order ammo online.

Thanks again.

I feel your pain. Living in the state capital I'm in your same boat. I usually wait until Sportsmans has a sale on that caliber.

Are you talking about a modern bolt rifle in 30-06? If so... I vote Palmette Armory or Ammo-togo, both have great services and fast shipping.

OP, if you live in LA CITY you can't order online, any of the surrounding cities are gtg. Also, if you want surplus check out the CMP.

To to wal-mart and buy the Winchester 150gr soft point, they go for around 18.97 for a box of 20 rounds in my area and they are accurate enough out of my buddies Remington 700. Best of both worlds, good cheap practice/plinking round, and good round for hunting.

Use a Seirra 168 grain Matchking bullet and the proper amount of IMR4895 or Varget. Blackhill Ammo makes a duplicate load, I think.

The 168 is too light for .30-06. You might as well run a .308 Win.

It's been the standard highpower load since about forever. It's the near duplicate/improvement of the 172 grain match load used for many years. The heavier bullets are a little hard on Garands.

I heard Carson is also a no-go for online ammo

I didn't see the OP mention an M1. If that's the case the 168 Hornady loads should work well.

You can mail order ammo to Carson.

If you are shooting a M1 Garand you need to order specific ammo for it. Any other rifle anything is fine.

wal mart

cheap federal 30'06 is about $15 for a box of 20. Buy a couple of boxes with different sized bullets, find out which your rifle shoots more accurately.
