I was told at the gun room to get an h6 form from the DMV and that would work so I did and everything was OK and took the gun home. Now that I'm picking up another gun at river city gun exchange they're telling me I can't use the h6 form as a por. Who is wrong?

Long story short, call River city and ask what they will accept as POR and then get that document.
What is and is not acceptable has been covered x1 million. Search and the WIKI (and the FFL forum) will give you the answer but trying to argue with an FFL about what they are supposed to or not supposed to take is like arguing with big5 about 11 days vs 10 or why CTD won’t ship “x” to CA even though it is legal.
Just call the FFL you plan on using (in this case, River city) and ask what they will accept and use that as your POR - or use a different FFL that better meets your situation.
Best of luck. :)

/\/\/\/\ What he said.
I think the better question is how is the H6 even acceptable when it shows the same address as you have on your DL?

What is the H6 form?
CA DOJ sent a memo to shops a while ago "asking" them to not accept certain identifications as proof of residency. I assume the H6 is one of those.

I think proof of residence is the most FUD-filled subject after bullet buttons, mag parts, and single shots.

I missed that memo. Do you have a copy or a link please.

Ok, first of all there is not enough information here to decide either way. I need to know.
1. Does your DL address match your current address?
2. Is this a handgun or a long gun?
If your DL address does not match your current address, you need a government issued document showing your current address (as it was written on your 4473) for the Feds. A print out from the DMV would suffice (assuming that is what this H6 is).
However, if you are using this document for a handgun purchase, then it most likely will not suffice. A handgun POR for the State of California must be a government issued document with an expiration date or period of validity. So even though your H6 probably has the date it was printed on it, it does not have an expiration date or a period of validity.
