I'm in the process of looking for a .458 socom upper, and was wondering about the ten round magazines. Can I buy them labeled for .458 cal and still have my featureless .223 upper with me. I've used the search and couldn't find anything about this newer than 2010 and didn't know if anything changed.

I was also wondering would there be any problems if someone confused it with some prebans while shooting and loaded it with .223. Would it be considered a high capacity mag?

Please see older thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=99574
I know for .50 Beowolf you can get magazines that are marked.

Thanks I saw that, I was just making sure nothing has changed since then.

It IS what you bought it for.

How you use it after is not limited. But the 'optics' are better if you actually have a .458 weapon.

if 458 socom is the same as 450 bushmaster a 5.56 round will not stay in the mag due to the feed lips being to wide...

if the round wont stay in you must acquit!!!

458 socom mags don't have widened feed lips. The round functions through normal 5.56 magazines.
