Are pistol grips legal on an 18" barreled shotgun?
Only the over all length law applies? correct?
Any help is appreciated, thanks

The overall length for shotguns must be 26" and the barrel must be 18" per the Federal Laws.
What matters is whether the shotgun is semiautomatic or pump action.
12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:
(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
(7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
(8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Question do they measure from the front of the chamber or rear of the chamber? I've heard both from leo's and just wondered what the Feds measure from. Thanks

they measure from the closed bolt face, usually with a dowel
most people stay at 18 1/4" so just in case they measure with the firing pin extended

Am I reading the law correctly? A semi auto that has both of the following. Does that mean that a Saiga that only has a detachable mag without a pistol grip is legal?

no, "both" applies to (a) and (b), not (7)
