Every range is different. Most ranges do not allow holstered weapons at all.

just call in advance and inquire about the rules of the range you want to shoot at. Prices, ammo, classes, targets. They are normally very friendly and helpful. Hope that helps. Merry shooting

Call the range you are going to for their rules.
Follow all laws pertaining to the transport of firearms.

FWIW, most ranges (that I have been to anyway) have a written set of range rules and policies. You are quite often required to read and sign something saying you've read them before they will let you shoot the first time.

When I go to a new place to shoot, I keep my firearms and ammunition secured the same way I transported them to the range until I am inside and assigned a lane. In other words, I walk in with my pistol case (locked) and my range bag (which I keep my ammo in) and proceed to the counter.
