I found this Lithgow at the Ventura show on Saturday and my wife decided it should be my birthday present. It has allot of character to say the least. Searches turned up some info, but I do not know enough about the enfields for it to make sense. Any more info is appreciated.
The bolt matches the receiver but the rest of the parts are unmarked, I think the the markings on the barrel indicate a wartime rebuild but it I am not sure. The bore looks great, very sharp rifling. I am wondering if the barrel was replaced during the rebuild. Is it strange that the barrel is unnumbered and the stock seems almost totally devoid of markings? The sling also is a little odd, it looks correct but it seems longer and somewhat more hefty then the one on my no5. Its markings lead me to believe it is from something more modern. It is going need a little repair on the butt stock, but I really like the rifle and I cant wait to get it out to the range next week.

Very nice! I have a 1917 Lithgow. Not quite as nice of shape as yours.
Yes, your sling is modern. Looks like a 1945 rebuild.
SMLE Man has a link to LE info. I had it but lost it in a computer crash.

Nice closeup pics. What did you shoot them with?

Well done! I'd like a better look at the sling if you can take some more pictures.

It's a variation of the usual sling that I've never seen. I posted a question about the sling on a forum in the U.K. We'll see what they have to say about it.

It is a U.S. Krag tropical sling made for use in the Philipines; made by the Mills company. From what I have read it is very rare. If you sell it, maybe you can buy another SMLE!

Great now all I need is someone who wants it. I did some looking around and could not get a real value for it. There is some nut on ebay that wants 350 for his. Something tells me that's a little much.

Try selling it on Gunboards. Lots of Krag collectors there.
