It's a SS S&W 686 with 4 inch barrel 6 shot and after market pachmeyer grips.

No box, papers or anything else. Just a decent shape shooter that I can trace back about 25 years.

You have probably noticed there are no pictures so what's the high/low opinion for a nothing fancy but not abused pistol.

Here's it's history:

Bought new by a Glendale PD Sgt. Fired for qualifications and not much else. He is not a gun guy.

I had the trigger stoned for him years ago by a L.A.S.D. factory trained Smith Tech. Trigger is not lighter just smooth.

Carried it until they made him upgrade to a semi pistol. This brought his gun collection up to three.

Low is probably $12.00 High is around $20.00 I'll give you $26.52 for it. That's generous right?

Seriously though, throw away those pachmeyer grips and it will increase the value.
Without pictures is really hard to say what the value is. Anywhere from $200-$400 probably.

I'll offer one Scottie's Chilli Chesse Dog Omelet and a cup of coffee for it.

If you've had it for 25 years, it's a pre-lock design. I prefer the pre-lock design, but for others it's a non-issue. It's also probably a 6-shot as opposed to 7 or 8 shot revolver. Again, some prefer one design over the other.

Look at the markings inside the crane to get the exact model number. 686 without a following - (dash) and a number means it is a first year production gun. -1 means the first series of modifications, -2 is the second, and so on.

I purchased a first year production 686 new for around $350 IIRC at B&B in North Hollywood. It's hard to put a price on your 686 without looking at it. Go to one of the gun auction sites and see what they are going for there.

Hmmm, you'd need to take me there for one first so I can see if it's a good deal or not. How about tomorrow?

Edited to add the guns history in the first post.

Gotta work tomorrow. Went there yesterday with the wife though. Hit me up towards the end of the week and maybe we can do it next weekend.

According to the Standard Catalog of S&W 3rd edition the prices are as follows.

ANIB 500
EXC 425
VG 375
Good 225
Fair 185

Mind you this book was published in 2006 so the 500-600 may be more accurate. I can pm a scanned pic of the pages covering that specific era.
