My wife shot 2 videos of me 1 each of 223 and 308. I pasted some clipped sections together for comparison.

The 308 recoil is heavier and longer. The 223 is lighter and quicker. You can see the difference by how my my head moves back.

Your shooting position is so solid, it's hard to tell much difference. Yeah, your head whips back some on the 308 but overall you are very solid.

308 recoil?

Not with an effective muzzle brake.

Yeah thats what skin cancer does to you. You cover up when in the sun. Three times now (2 on head and 1 on face) Not pleasant at all having a surgeon carve on your face while awake.

Always good to see videos of the LMT 308. What brake are you using again? PWS?

Very cool to see. I feel like Gumby when I saw you shooting the 308. :( My Mini 14 I can go plink plink plink plink plink, no problem, but the K31 is crack, recoil and get body back in place, crack... :)

Was there a debate raging that .308/7.62 rifles were just slightly harder on the shoulder than .223/5.56, or perhaps the other way around and this was an attempt to settle the argument?

While loads vary from very light to very heavy, rifle weight dramatically changes the pulse and an effective muzzle brake can make a world of difference, in general the .308/7.62 in a common loading, such as a 150 grain 2700 FPS load from a 20" barrel will have about 15 lbs. of free recoil against the shoulder vs. about 5 lbs. for the .223/5.56 firing a 62 grain load at 3000 FPS from a 20" barrel.

The move to the lighter intermediate round was to facilitate shorter, lighter weapons, lighter ammunition of a similar or greater quantity for the same weight of full power rifle ammunition, controllable full automatic and faster follow-up shots on semi-automatic. The lighter recoil makes it easier to train most individuals to stay on target and is less intimidating, promoting better discipline, fewer bad habits (flinching) and more enjoyable practice. That said, they are different types of rifles for different purposes with overlap primarily at shorter ranges without intermediate barriers.

I needed my 3D glasses for the .223 shots. Very cool how the shells were coming right at the camera.

Where were you shooting??

10-4 on this. Good grip, cheek weld and stance. Thanks for the vids.

25gr vs 43gr of powder, 55gr vs 175gr bullets= less recoil. It's even more noticeable in non-braked bolt guns.

Take the brakes off and do it again.

Experiencing a deja vu. Experiencing a deja vu. :)

Good shooting, though. It is a fair comparison since you mostly just changed the caliber. Might be fun in the future to compare different loads, bolt vs. semi-auto, muzzle break no break. One learns strange things about the recoil when tinkering with the gear.

That would be more interesting!
Nice to have the Massage video popup after the OP's!
