I'm planning on making over there to finally meet Bruce, but I don't have anyone who can "sponsor" me.

Is there anyone willing to sponsor me, pretty please?

*The only East Bay area range I've been able to shoot at was once at Chabot. I've never been to Concord in my life.

Open event/Fun shoot.
The Clubhouse will be closed, so no BBQ up there.
Hadn't considered it, tho. Someone would have to bring a BBQ.

Bruce, you want me to bring mine? It's a medium sized grill, so it's not a PITA to transport. Charcoal though. That's how I roll.

Do you guys like Mexican food? I can roll out some tacos, which are not too difficult to make out on the field. I truly believe that one has to be an idiot to mess up carne asada.

I know a decent Mexican supermarket in San Mateo where I can get the stuff I need.

What do you guys think?

Or if you guys like pork chops (with a killer soy sauce, garlic, and honey marinade) we could do that.

Hi Bruce!
Say man - Feb 20th is a Monday.
So far, only two clubs within USI have a 2012 Multi-Purpose Range Schedule up on their Webpage;
Brentwood (Click on Calendar and then Click on Multi-Purpose Range Schedule) & Baypoint (Click on Range Schedule).
Neither club lists this event on Monday Feb 20th.
I'm not trying to rain on the event as I'd like to attend, I'm just asking where did you get/find/obtain this info?

I talked to Steve McConell & he said we could use the BBQ on the clubhouse porch. The Clubhouse will be closed however.

I will run the USI/Calguns event & be the RO for our group. If you & Rojo want to share the BBQ duties, that would be cool!

Bruce - Please clarify - thanks!

I will open the USI Multi-Purpose Range for this fun shoot. Most of the attendees are USI Club Members & Calgunners. Some Calgunners will be sponsored by USI Members. There is no regular Club Event schedule.

What is the BBQ there like and how does everyone else feel about tacos?

And how are we going to figure out logistics? I've never actually done something like this. I just show up and cook.

Wooo...I'm going to cook? That's news to me. IMO, instead of BBQ'ing at the Club House, how about a tail-gate cook out? Plenty of room and less likely a fire hazard and closer proximity to the MP range. That way it can be like a pot luck for those that would like to contribute. And Bruce, if you are going to open up, WE ALL hope you bring enough DONUTS! I'm sure there are those like myself that have a pick-up truck to help out in tailgating. The other factor is weather. What if rain is expected, then what? Are we going to shoot? Anyway, that is what I'm thinking about. All ideas and suggestions should be welcomed. We are Cal-Gunners!

Rain, no problem, We are Calgunners! The BBQ is on a covered porch.
If a couple people want to haul a BBQ, no problem. Tailgating is good. The Clubhouse BBQ can be a backup. There is no fire hazard at the clubhouse.

Do you guys have a chimney starter, or do you want me to bring mine?

How do you guys roll for charcoal, with lump or briquettes?

You can shoot anything that is legal and safe. If you do not know where the MP range is, just look for the my truck with my Marine Corps and Old Glory flag flying. When you will pass the public range you will see it. The MP range I believe will open at 0900 unless Bruce has other plans. Those of you that do not know me I will be the guy with the black Springfield tee shirt and black cap. What gun shirts or hats will you wear? So, if you can't stay, try to stop by and say hey to the Cal-Gun family. :hurray:

How does 4 racks of baby back ribs sound? Can cook tomorrow and warm up on Monday if there is room on the BBQ. These things are the bomb. A recipie I have been working on for the last 10 years. Interested?

Can I shoot Wolf with a bi-metal jacket? If not I can bring corrosive Yugo.

Also would like to try the 200 yard gong with the 1911.
Will be good to see you Sammy!
Ribs? :drool5:
But no steel ammo!

I'm in the Concord area and I shoot at either Richmond or Livermore with my co-workers, but I'd really like to join one of the local clubs and do more shooting in Concord, which club do you guys recommend for non-hunting black rifle loving peeps?

Diablo hosts the most Venues, is the largest & the coolest..:cool2:

What should I bring for food? Or is my volunteering to cook "good enough" of a contribution?

Honest question.

Cooking is good enough!

Bruce, is it cool just to come & shoot, and skip the lunch? (I would love to hang out after that, but wife has a plan already).

If my friend cannot make it, I can be a sponsor too.

I need a volunteer to bring 1 large bag a briquettes for back/reserve. That would be a big help. Thanks!

I would like to say "THANK YOU" to all of those that were able to make it out today to USI and am sorry for those that could not make it. The food was really great as well as the company. And thanks again for those that brought some of goodies that we all piged out on. Yummy. And thank you for USI for letting us use the propane BBQ. Good thing we had the old Weber cooking too. There was some real good quail on the Weber that was marinated so good that it got ate up pretty fast. (I have who's that pot the quail was marinated in. PM me if it belongs to you) And a "SPECIAL THANK YOU TO BRUCE WHO STARTED THIS GIG TODAY. THANKS BRUCE!" And thank you all. :hurray:

G man-WC took a few pics. Hopefully he'll post them in the C&R Thread.

WoW! Last year 5 CGrs came out. Today, We had 17 Calgunners show up! New record for a USI Event. And several new folks we hadn't met before. Very cool people!

Thanks to everyone who came out.

Thanks to everyone who brought Chow. We had some seriously good BBQ!

Thanks to Cook Jarhead.

Who ate my Bean Salad? Seemed like it hardly got touched! It was much better than the batch I took to a BBQ last weekend.

We had a pretty interesting collection of toys showed up too.
HOLY DIVERSITY, :batman: !

It was a blast!

Swiss Flu just claimed another victim, and it was my fault. :43:

Thanks OHOD for bringing out the Most Russian of Mosins I've ever seen.

Who would have thought that Bruce and I have the same last name? 'Cept for his ancestors hailing from Canada and mine from New England.

Thanks for doing this guys. This was our (my son and I) first time at the MP range. We were the some of the few shooting prone. I think my son ran through at least 300 rounds in the Savage Mark II. And I found out my Larue Stealth really likes Steel Cased 75g Hornady Training Ammo.

Thanks to everyone that cooked, we would have participated in those festivities ourselves but I had an appointment with the tax man to take care of.

I hear that this same group of RO's opens the MP range on Fridays too? I'd like to get on a distribution list for that if there is one as I typically have Friday's off.

It was a great day at the range for Presidents Day Shoot :patriot:.
Nice meeting so many CalGunners only known by avatar.
Great food and company. Thanks Bruce and the BBQ crew.
Sorry for leaving my StarBucks bulk box and sides mess. I remembered it half way home.
Nice collection of hunting rifles, black rifles, shotguns, handguns, and a butt load of MilSups. :gunsmilie:
I spend most of my range time talking guns instead of shooting. My son had shot only shot 22's before today and graduated today to 9mm pistol. Couldn't get him on the shotgun slug or MilSup train, but it's a start just keeping him on the range for some ground pounding fun.
Just got done cleaning up the Shoot'n Irons

I was at USI today; was going to ask for a sponsor for this event but had a timeout for getting rowdy in the elections Forum. Looks like a great turnout. Also, whoever was spotting for me trying to get my TechSight sighted in: THANK YOU!

Thanks again Ivan!

It was good to meet everyone and I also spent more time talking then actually shooting lol. I did get to shoot a few guns that I have wanted to for a while and that was really cool. I had to leave a little early to pick up my gf's mom from work but when I picked her up the first thing she asked was "did they like the bbq?" lol

The quail and ribs were awesome as well, it was a good bbq.....thanks for the help jarhead.

Another thanks to Bruce for allowing us to shoot, it was much appreciated. Hope you put that brass to good use :)

Man, there were so many CGNers there that I wanted to meet, yet I only met a handful. I was so wrapped up in shooting with my son, that I didn't spend enough time chatting. Next time, I will.

Thanks to Sammy for letting us play with his .22 AR. My son wants me to get a .22 conversion for my AR, too. Smart kid. :D

Thanks to Panda for letting me shoot some cool toys, too. Nice trigger on that Sig!

It was nice shooting next to bloodhawke83. He even captures his brass so no getting burned being to his right. :)

Thank you to the CGNers that drove a long way to join us locals yesterday, too.

I had a great time at the President's Day shoot and it was nice to meet a few more Calgunners!

The best part about being there yesterday was that my Son got to invite his grandfather to join us. He is a Marine and has a purple heart for injuries he received in Vietnam. He takes my Son hunting every year and loves shooting but doesn't go to the range very often, so to be able to have him join us and get to shoot some of my guns with his Grandson was really a blessing.

That BBQ pork on a stick was fantastic Jonzer!!

My Son said we should do this once a month...lol
