vincentvangerven's excellent ATI sniper thread (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=513363) got me interested in getting my own.

So I ordered one from ATI...on January 10, 2012! Apparently, there were some "internal debates" at ATI as to whether or not they could ship a C&R rifle directly to an 03 FFL in California. After several e-mails and phone calls, I got an e-mail from their Sales Administrator, who assured me that the problems had been solved and that direct sales to 03's in CA are GTG. Awesome!

So the Big Brown Truck of Love showed up today with my new rifle...I was a little worried when I saw this:

And this:

Shades of my M28/76 delivery from J&G! But when I opened the box, all was well. Interesting label on the box:

Lots of lovely smelling wax paper...I really do love the smell of cosmoline!

And were back!

The Mount and Scope...note the wax paper/string protecting the W/E turrets. I'm reluctant to remove it!

And finally the rifle together...

All in all...I'm really happy with this rifle:

- The bore is shiny with beautiful rifling
- VERY FEW handling marks on the wood
- The optics are perfect (which is crazy when you think that the scope is 68 years-old)
- The numbers that are stamped match on the bolt/receiver/scope mount/buttplate/magazine
- There's even dessicant packets inside the leather scope covers, and the leather is wrapped in paper/tied with string

OK, next stop is the range...with the backlog I've got, I might need to stay overnight and make it a 2-day affair! :D

$679 + $17.11 shipping = $706.11 delivered to my door.

The word on these is that they were arsenaled at the end of the war, then stored at a Soviet Police Department for 60+ years. Cool! :D

Apparently, ATI bought the whole lot. 1,400 or so from what I've heard. They're already out of the 1942 Izhevzks.

Now I want to order a Tula!
