Does anyone here know anything about Smith and Wesson Victorys in .38 Special? Just made a trade for one that is about 95% in finish condition and I know nothing about them as this is my first revolver.

Nice history piece!
If it is in 95% condition it may be almost too nice to shoot.
Use standard pressure .38 Special ammo only...no plus P ammo.

Roger that no +P. Will post pictures tomorrow. Should I send S&W the form to have the history of the pistol confirmed?

I have one with The Navy stamp on the top strap that didn't get the parkerize treatment refurb and re-issued. Navy pilot's holster with it.
When S&W accepted the contract, they made a deal that the US government couldn't resell them to the public like they did with the 1917 S&W and Colts. That damned near broke both companies after WWI. They took thousands of Victory Models and ran them through the crusher, and were sold for $5 as paperweights, or scrap. :(
Same as a Model 10, only with a lanyard ring, and without the high gloss blue of the commercial model.

Why not? Unlike the Colt letter the SW letter is pretty affordable and you never know what could come back to you regarding the revolver. I did a letter from SW for a 38/44 heavy duty and learned it had been shipped to a now gone shop in Los Angeles, part of 10.

Here's my Victory in .38SW issued post war to the Austrian police. Got it from a Calgunner along with a WW2 USGI leather 17/42 holster meant for the SW or Colt 1917.
