Was wondering if anyone could help me out regarding this lower. A friend of mine in Northern California is interested in it so I was planning on transferring it to his local ffl but first wanted to make sure its not on any of the DOJ's ban lists in Ca. I looked myself and have not been able to locate this actual model being banned in California but wanted to double check here before I sent it off.

I do have a Bullet Button that will be installed before its on its way.

Olympic Arms 5.56 NATO - MOD:COMMANDO - SERIAL#:USMC###

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!

Only models listed that are on the ban list are the Olympic Arms AR-15, Car-97, and PCR, so you're good to go.

Correct, Olympic Arms is on that list with 3 of their models but not the 'Commando' model and my understanding is that the California DOJ does not ban items according to the Brand/Company but by the actual "model"

Please correct me if I am wrong

Yes, that is correct. Commando model is not specifically named under the AW list and is therefore legal if properly configured.

Friends don't let friends buy Olympic Arms.

That were made in the 1980s-1990s. When "A.B.C." was considered the best of the best.
"A.B.C." = Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt

Olympic Arms also makes the receivers/parts for Tromix, SGW, Palmetto & Dalphon. :willy_nilly:
So, I guess you should avoid those as well.

Maybe you don't recall the overall lack of Oly's customer service...

Do you research before you post. Their reputation is in the same class as Hesse and ASA.

My Olys have never failed to go bang when they are supposed to.

Do my Bushmasters 'feel' nicer?

Yes.

Is there any appreciably functional difference between my Bushy's and Olys?

Nope

I do know that in the late-90s thru early-2000s, their customer service was lacking. It was probably due to their facility catching fire and them losing some records (BATFE was not pleased due to Olympic Arms not knowing where several 1000s recievers went) and then CA make/model banning almost every AR they made, so they told all the Olympic Arms customers (civilian & LEO) in CA to eff'off.

The reviews of the current production (post-2004) ARs are decent, better than Century International. People that have reviewed that their new products, report that the quality has improved.

But, I guess a company can't change or improve.

What does a company's customer service policy/history matter regarding a 10+ year-old used lower, especially if it's in-spec?
