Got my 590a1 out of jail to day and I can't wait to take it out! Few questions though. The top of the receiver is drilled on the top. Is that to take a picatinny rail? If so will the 15 dollar plastic magpul ones fit? I'd like to eventually put a burris Fastfire on it.

Seconly it has a small swivel on the stock for a sling but there isn't anything toward the front of the gun to attach the other end of the sling.

Thanks for the help and I can't wait to sign up for one of the skeet shooting classes.

Mag extension clamps can be bought with different swivel attachments and if the holes are in-line on top you should be able to mount a rail or ghost ring sight

(how much $$ did the broker loan you for it?)

Mossberg should include the swivel for the front. It's in the box, contained in a small paper envelope. And Im sure you can put a picatiny on the top of the reciever.

Congrats on the new a1

mossberg makes a rail for the top of the receiver, or you can mount a ghost ring rear sight. i think there may be third parties who supply these as well.

there should be a spot near the front for a swivel stud like this one. (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/210892/mossberg-quick-detachable-stud-front-mossberg-500-590) look for a threaded hole either behind the bayonet lug or in the magazine cap.

a great shotgun -- enjoy.

UTG makes a metal rail. Got mine on Ebay.

There are many different manufacturer's rails that will drop right on. Just me, but I would not do a plastic rail under any optic.

Man, I still want a 590A1 (the 51663 model).

Out of hock means you took a loan against it at a pawn shop, Or you were in debt

I assume you have a bead front sight. This will work just fine for buckshot and field loads out to about 40-50 yards with good accuracy. The only reason to put a picatinny rail is if you wanted to put a 1x red dot for a little different (not necessarily faster) target acquisition or a low powered scope for using slugs. As pointed out don't bother with a plastic rail; spend the extra cash on an aluminum or steel one. Check the WTB forum looking for an unused one or even used for cheap.

I see you want to go skeet shooting, check with some more knowledgeable persons on this subject, but the general feeling I get is you can't skeet shoot with a 20 inch barrel, can't do it with cylinder choke, and anything other than bead sights just makes it harder.

A 590A1 is solid and I personally don't feel the need to buy another pump action for the rest of my life.

I have been wondering if there is a longer barrel that will drop in a 590. It would be cool to drop another barrel in for shooting skeet. I love my 590 :D

I think the 18.5" 590 can use the longer barrels of the 835. I'm not sure, but I heard somewhere that it could use the 835 barrels.
