Doubt we'd all agree in this forum about what constitutes a "gem."

hmmm ok how about Top Collectors choice then? Or gem as in Diamonds and Ruby levels.

IE... 1949 Non Refurb Russian SKS. That would make it a gem because its the first year or production and its non Refurb and EXTREMELY Hard to find.

But I do see your point...if that's the case...I better make a big list then :)

Yes even you yugo freaks can join. If you think your 1990's Serbian conflict with papers is a gem then put in on ze list.

You don't get to make it sticky. Mods make them or stick threads they feel are worthy

The "Big 3" when it comes to the SKS is the East German Karabiner-S, the Type 1 NVA, and the North Korean.

I know there's at least one Type 1 on CGN, I don't know about the other two though

All 5 of my SKS' are gems to me. I kind of feel like as if I'm a polygamist. I can hold close to me a different one five days a week and still feel good. I need at least two days to myself.

Yugo 59/66A1 (1985) Yugo M59 (1966) Romanian (1960) Russia (Tula 1953) Albania (1978) I need to figure out how to post a pic on here. I will try today. Please bear with me on that.

ok we got Yugo 59/66 on the list already but yeah M59 can go.

Romy I agree how about your Russian? Is it Refurb?

I think an alby can go on as well :) Hard to find and the ak-47 charging handle makes it unique among its SKS brothers and Sisters.

I'm going to assume he's shooting for something that is Sticky worthy. Not sure if you were clarifying or raining on a parade.

I'm clueless about SKS, so if you're going to do a write-up make it understandable to newbs.

SKSer45

OK so as newb buying sks don't buy those on the list not yet. Get a few Chinese, Russians, Yugo first. Then you can go after the crown jewels

Why assume when he said this:

But yea OP go ahead and make an epic topic and maybe you will get lucky and get it stuck one day

Ooo well that is a start. I take it all the matching serial numbers are matching correct?

Have to see some pics to be honest with you and it can a be a bit tricky. Obviously the black "bbq" paint is a dead give away on the bolt carrier, electric pencil markings are a sign as well. Some SKS guru disagree with that...ehhh either way just looks damn ugy.

No bbq paint. All the numbers matxh except on the bottom side of the gas tube where someone crossed out a number with an electric pencil and wrote in the correct number. That is the only electric pencil on the gun.

hmmm that is not to big of deal but that is a sign that some one else looked at it and replaced it. Still might not be a refurb though if its just the gas piston. Either way I am sure it is a fine fine shooter and being A russian its going to hold its value very well! :)
