Fifty Caliber Institute Alert
Illinois Legislature Attacks the .50 Caliber
March 22, 2007

During the past week the 50 caliber target rifle has become the focus of the anti-gun attack by the Illinois State Legislature. As we reported earlier this year the Illinois legislature introduced an 'Assault Weapons Ban' bill that included the .50 caliber target rifle as part of the bill. As things developed in the committee hearings, it appeared there might not be sufficient votes to get that bill passed. Last week a 2nd bill was introduced on the Senate side of the legislature making the 50 caliber target rifle a stand alone bill. SB1471 That bill was voted out of committee and now can be called to the floor of the IL Senate at any time for a vote. [MORE (http://fiftycal.org/newletters/alert070322/)]

I wonder if Illinois has a version of Calguns to rally the troops. I sometimes wonder if Calguns was around before the 50 cal ban in California, if it would have made a difference.

As much crap as I get from Illinois gun owners on other forums, I do not wish this on anyone at all. I wish them the best of luck.

Calguns WAS around before AB50. No, we didn't stop it, just put some heat under certain politicians' butts.

AB50 was defeated twice (under Gray Davis yet), but you-know-who had to give a gift to the antis. Remember, he signed it on the EXACT DAY that the federal AW ban sunset. Had to cushion that shock for his pals, right?

true mike, the cup is half empty. But you-know-who also vetoed AB2724 after it was passed, something to think about in the big picture. Being the lone Republican in Sac can be pretty daunting.

I think you mean AB 2714? Indeed he did...

And he VETOED SB 59 (which is why LCAV is forced to push that crap locally)...
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?summary=sb59&year=2006

And in the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that one week after he banned the .50 BMG, he SIGNED A PRO-GUN BILL...
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?summary=ab2431&year=2004

...and he VETOED 2 ANTI-GUN BILLS...
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?summary=sb1140&year=2004
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?summary=sb1152&year=2004

In fact, since AB-50, I don't think he's signed any other bad gun bills. But that one mistake is a real big one. He banned guns.

True... I view Aanold as a 50/50 pro/anti guy, but at least he's not a 100% anti (which is what I believe Bustamante would've been)

Helloooo! He can terminate all the Dems, can't he??? Even at his age, he should merely do a pass/no pass on all bills based on whether or not the Dems (commie scum) can beat him in an arm wrestle.
