So ... bring back numbers matching w/ monopod (albeit bent) & aircraft sights Type 99 Arisaka, I paid 200. The mum is gone but otherwise its all there and it has what looks like it COULD be the original sling on it.

I also picked up a Zastava SKS. It was the right price and while I wanted to find a Russian or a Chinese, my sources near my base were lacking in even HAVING SKS's so I figured when this popped up, I'd jump at it. It should be fun to shoot at the least.

Do the numbers match on the 99?. That dust cover( also serial numbered) is hard to come by as well.Too bad the grinder got to the mum...yours has all else

Only in the mean time, I'll get another SKS, I can guarantee you that, I want me a Russian!

Yeah, even the dust cover is numbers matching on it. Some guy walked in to trade it in and the manager saw me come in (and KNEW I wanted a T-99) and called me over. The guy was trading it in towards something else in the store and he told me what he'd give me for a price on it, I said yes, walked outta the store with my SKS and T-99 about an hour later :)

Nice man those are some nice guns.

Good price on the type 99. Looks to have original sling.

Don't know why some folks trash Yugos, Romanians or Norincos; that looks like one nice rifle. Congrats; don't sweat the fanboy stuff - I hope your new purchases give you lots of enjoyment for the years to come.

Nice finds!

That Yugo SKS is SO much fun to shoot! I absolutely LOVE mine! I have Yugo's, Romanian's and a Chinese but the Yugo is the only one that makes it out to the range.

I just did a trade with SKSer45... he hates Yugos... wait until he finds out what he got from me. He only thinks it's Romanian ;)

If you could imagine feeding a rubberized canvas sling viagra for the last 70 years, then you'd have an idea of how stiff it is. Its pretty much junk but its original on an original rifle and thus, it'll stay on the rifle.

Nice scores!

On the T99-
The sling and the monopod alone are worth well above what you paid.
Put up a picture of the left receiver markings. Looks kind of Nagoya

Word of caution: if the screws are still staked, you'll probably want to leave them be.
Same goes for the sling, probably best to let sleeping dogs lie as they are quite valuable.

Good.

Good job on both of those - heck of a deal. And I'm glad you realized it and know the value of the original parts and all are staying put. :)

If it's a bring back, it's a post war one. The grinding on the mum like that started after the war ended. The sling alone is worth at least half of what you paid, good score.

Nice scores Shelby lover. Neets Foot Oil shouldn't hurt that sling, but check with others first. Carefully hand work it into the leathers grain, then try to loosen it a little and work it some more. But like I said ask a pro first. So that's 2 T-99s now? Watch out, you'll need couseling soon or a support group at least. Find the mag follower and spring yet? That Yugo looks great! I'll bet it's a good shooter. PAX

It is most definitely a Nagoya Arsenal, series 4. The irony of it is that This rifle and the one my grandfather brought back and left me are a mere 1800 apart serial number wise, same Arsenal, same Series. This thing needs a good cleaning and oiling though. That might be a project for me tomorrow!.

And y'all are right, here I thought Mosin's or possibly Mausers were going to be my crack ... alas its looking like it might be Arisakas.

Albanian! Nice! Hard to find!

There was one here for sale recently, but alas, as soon as I opened my mouth I logged onto my bank account... it said NO! Don't do it!

Man... I SO want an Albanian! But have to wait until business picks up again. Could be in a year... could be in another 5 :(

Something about the gas tube. He can't stand that they have a grenade launcher and a selective gas valve on them.

I'm going to meet him at the Angeles in about 30 minutes - guess what I'll probably bring to shoot? hahahahahaha :)

I too am wondering why some don't like the Yugo, should be as well made as the others no?

We have a Russian and a Chinese that shoot about equal. The Chinese survived our youth which meant thousands and thousands of rounds of steel cased bimetal ammo topped by abuse / neglect. It still shoots as good as it did then and a little straighter than the Russian.
My brother and I got that thing so hot one day that the varnish melted off the stock near the hand guard, don't know if or what we were thinking...

The C & R community is so off the radar in terms of normality (really? Can you tell someone you found a double-stamped Mosin or a VZ-24 with a lion crest at lunch at work?) that I wish we wouldn't treat certain kinds of firearms like the rest of the world treats football teams.

My avatar shows me merrily shooting my Yugo. It does not have a chrome barrel. It is very very accurate compared to many other firearms we own. It does have a gas port valve I never touch as I am not launching grenades. It's nicer than my Tula '51 Russkie which is far more beautiful.

Let's just stop bashing C and R's - I would say there's more room for the Nambu or Carcano fans to get bashed :) but I respect anyone's passion and let's be polite.

I second that. How about some FR-8's and some Hakim's or even the Yugo M48's to name a few. I also like all my SKS rifles as well.

I think we can agree the nambu design leaves a decent amount to be desired, but Carcanos are underrated IMO.

I plan to purchase a Nambu, and a Type 26 sometime soon. But They can keep the Nambu Type 94 -?- Whatever that ugly thing is.

You gotta problem with carcanos? :chris:

The sling pictured is rubberized canvas. No leather at all in that sling. ;)

I always made fun of Yugos for not having a chromed bore.

But neither does our Beloved Mosin Nagant. In fact alot of people used to Bash the Japanese rifles, yet they were one of the Few guns made during WW2 with a chrome lined bore. That and the fact that the Arisaka action/design was found to be stronger than even the famed K-98, per testing done post war. It is a variation of the Mauser design, just like the Beloved 1903. Heck the famed .30-06 round was based on the German 8mm LOL.

Goes back to the whole not invented here mindset.
Yugo SKS's can take out tanks and personnel with Rifle grenades, just like the Garands, 03A3's and carbines could (as well as the FAL, M-14, and even the M-16A2 was designed/adapted for using Rifle grenades).

I might put that as my signature: "The Yugoslavian M-59/66 SKS, Built like a Tank, designed to be able to Fight a Tank. Any other SKS is Childs play."

But I digress, Chrome lining while nice is not a requirement as long as maintenance is done on a weapon

Even though the rubberized sling is ugly and stiff as a board, please don't toss it!
Or if you do toss it, throw it in my direction. ;)

Heating it with a hairdryer will make it a bit more pliable if you want to reposition or remove it.

What arsenal/series it the Arisaka, BTW?

Both of mine are Nagoya Arsenal, Series 2 rifles, 1800 apart. Yeah I'm not going to chuck that sling, I'll leave it on the rifle. I do think I need to run a couple patches down the barrel and oil it though. The only thing that would have made this thing better is if it had the mum on it still like my other one.

^^^^ They just did it to the type99 I believe and then towards the end of the war they stopped doing it.

I have one that rust pitting all over it but because the bore was chromed it saved it.
