Mitchell bashing aside I've heard there was an article in the recent American Rifleman about new production K98s from Serbia that Mitchells Mausers will have. Anyone know if these are full length 98 actions? Or intermediate actions dressed up like a K98?

Well Zastava has been making them since they quit producing M48's

They made hunting rifles for the eastern European market and under the brand name Mark X for the western market. I don't think they ever stopped making mauser actions and I would be willing to bet, they are going to be pretty close in dimensions to the M48

I read that article and it said they are almost exact repos of the K98K. It even said most origanl parts will swap out. I want one!

I just read the article. They are 98k rifles with the early ribbed buttplate and stamped bands. Hammer forged barrels. Retail is $695. Made on CNC machinery. If they sell replacement barrels too there will be a number of them sold!

I believe Remington once sold some large ring 98s that were outsourced to Zastava.

As for Mitchell's, I wouldn't do business with them on principle.

Shady bastards.

Not to wander off topic, but...

I'm just curious what the problem is. I am thinking about buying one (or more :o ).

EAA currently imports them as USSG Z98s.

With Mitchells Mausers history, if you buy from them you get what you deserve.

Do your homework.

You mean these guys? http://www.eaacorp.com/

I don't see them in their catalog. In fact, I don't see any bolt action rifles at all.

He probably doesn't like them because they're "different." I don't like them because they don't have chrome-lined bores...

So since we know he has all of the fake german proof marks punches, can we assume that the "new" rifles will also have all of the "correct" stamps.

Well I read the article. It implies they are dimensionally the same as German K98'. One would assume that means standard length action. Problem is the Yugo's have always made the intermediate length. I guess we'll find out. If I can afford it I might get one.

I'd say it depends on what kind of Mauser it's going to be.

I mean, the Yugos just cloned the FN '24 Mauser with the intermediate length. Im sure that making a standard dimension action is not out of the question for them.

But like you said, we'll see.

Personally I think hunting rifles and sporting rifles are a lot uglier than those with full military stocks. Maybe these are good candidates for D&T scope mounting without destroying history?
