View Full Version : What's the 411 on Soviet scopes?

Thinking about getting a AK47 and SVD style rifles ~ what are the best options and sources for scoping them? (with soviet scopes).

If memory serves me right, the Kobra and PSO were names that come up.

Please share your experiences and recommendations.

I dunno how good they are since I've never used them, but Kalinka Optics sells POSP and other ComBloc scopes.

I noticed these guys to be cheaper, but the selection doesnt seem to be as big

The real military ones are half-decent. The Belarus commercial copies are crap.

I have a VMOZ that came with the old VEPR and have beat the hell out of it. It holds zero on a 458 SOCOM and survived being washed with HOT water.

The downside is there is a lot less adjustment in it than a US scope. I have had to do creative things with rings and bases to get it to boresite.

I have the POSP from Belarus on my saiga. It holds zero very well, has an illuminated cross-hair, built in range finder and is extremely accurate for the price. Can't complain, a soviet scope for a soviet rifle. They also have newer scopes for weaver mounts if needed.

I have a KOBRA and a 6x POSP. I love them both. These aren't exactly precision glass, but these aren't precision rifles either. Great optics for the money IMO.

Personally, I've been quite happy with the POSP 4-8x42WD from posp.ru.

I've heard some bad noises about Kalinka, though. For one thing, they mark the scopes WAY up - for another, I think it was bwiese who said the scopes from Kalinka are actually factory seconds...?

For AK style rifle with side mount rail this one is the best in my book. Have no problems hitting vitals at man size targets up to 350-400 meters. And it also works without the battery. must have for CQB or urban warfare ak-47. http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=110

OK, I've got one question about this advanced combloc technology:

What the heck is seluminium?

POSP/PSO SVD/SKS Side Mount to Weaver Rail. A rock solid SVD side mount to Weaver rail precision machined to fit any standard SVD-style rail. Made of solid seluminium for extreme strength

Seluminium is a direct derivitive of unobtanium.. it is a very strong and rare non ferrus metal ;)

You are almost right, selenium is the marketing version of unobtanium.

Remember there are two types of mounts/scopes with integral mounts. The first is an "SVD" type and the second is an AK type. SVD mounts include the Dragunov and PSL rifles, and the AK mounts are for the regular AK's that have side mounts.

The side mounted scope mounts for the Saiga, Romanian AK's (not the PSL), RA Veprs, and Arsenal rifles are the same. The regular AK mounts should fit them all.

Stay away from Kalinka mounts and optics. They sell junk.
