Well, mark me down for my second shooting that I've been a witness to. That puts me at 2 shootings in 4 years. Do I get a free vest or something when I get my 3rd?

Well, a black guy got shot in the parking lot in front of the Regal movie theater in Antioch at about 10:30 pm. Those who know the area: two friends and I were sitting in the car in front of Taco Bell. We heard shooting to our left, near the Washington Mutual. The first thought for all of us was gunfire, but we thought "nah, not out here in the open like this, its firecrackers." Then, a black guy in a black & white pattered hooded (with hood up) sweatshirt goes running in front of us heading east as we're sitting in the car, eating our Taco Bell. He's not sprinting, but very much in a hurry. This is when our question marks appeared above our heads. Surely if you're setting off firecrackers in the parking lot, you don't need to run THAT fast to get out of there. We got out and one of us wanders a few feet towards the bank. He says "uh, theres somebody laying on the ground over there." We go up and he's bloody and laying on the ground, motionless. My other friend had a modicum of medical training, he told me to call 911, to which I replied that I could already hear the sirens coming. The shooting was closer to the WaMu than to the Taco Bell, the equivalent of about two parking lot rows over from us. Our view of it was obstructed only by the dumpster enclosure.
Basically the whole department descended on the immediate area. Apparently another guy was in his truck, about to get out to use the ATM at the WaMu and saw the shooting in his rear view mirror. He saw an additional black dude in a white t-shirt also run towards Taco Bell, but unlike the guy we saw who went past the front door on the south side, this guy ran up the drive thru lane on the north side of the building, jumped the bushes, and kept going, as confirmed by the Taco Bell drive-thru employee. A few minutes later, the ambulance showed up. By this time there were a few dozen black people around, the majority of whom made comments about how the ambulance would have arrived sooner had the victim been white. A couple cops interviewed us; once we got out the description of the guy we saw and our contact info, apparently the victim's mother shows up and starts wailing, and several cops have to restrain her. I thought I heard one of the EMTs talking to the victim, so I'd like to think he was alive for at least a little while.
At this same shopping center about 10 days ago a mob (75-100) of teens and young adults attacked a cop who was trying to write a ticket. They had to call backup from Brentwood, the next town over, for that one.

I'd say it is time to move. Antioch looks nicer now than it has in years but the bad element is there and getting worse. Sad but I am a white fellow and driving through certian parts of Antioch I know better than making eye contact with the natives. Especially if they are in groups more than 10. Sorry to hear about it. Sammy :(

Why? Do you know the victim to be a criminal or something?
exactly. he could have just been trying to use the ATM, we dont have enough facts to figure it out either way.
as for those who are *****ing the ambulance isnt arriving fast enough, i hope it doesnt arrive for them.
as for those attacking hte officer writing a ticket, i hope it never arrives for them. dumbasses.
as for not looking at the natives when they are in groups larger than 10, i cant htink of any better argument to re legalize hi caps :p

(NOT RACIST just sharing a similar experience.)
My sister is a paramedicand she was the back up call to that shooting in back in Riverside several years back where a detective got shot out of no where for a noise complaint. She was trying to keep people away from the rig when people of African American decent started yelling at her and the cops (while surving pie none the less) as the first body was being taken away that the only reason the cops and the medics wanted them to back up was that "so we cant see y'all kill another black person!" then started ranting on about Tyeisha(sp?) Miller. My sister said it was really sad because they were serving pie to each other getting as close as they can when this officer got killed for no reason.
here's the link to the story.

(03-17) 07:19 PDT ANTIOCH -- A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed after an altercation outside a movie theater in Antioch on the eve of a community forum today to discuss youth violence, authorities said.
The victim, whose name wasn't released, was found lying in the parking lot of the Deer Valley Plaza at 4200 Lone Tree Way at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, shortly after a caller reported hearing gunshots, Antioch police said today.
Minutes earlier, another caller had reported seeing several people fighting and throwing things at a security guard outside the Regal Cinemas Deer Valley, police said.
The boy suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, where he was pronounced dead.
The shopping center is a popular place for teenagers, and merchants there have frequently complained about rowdy youths loitering in the area and intimidating customers.
On March 7, numerous officers from the region were called to restore order as Antioch police arrested several teenagers who were allegedly blocking traffic near the shopping center.
Police and probation officers have conduced truancy sweeps in the city in the area to ensure that students from nearby Deer Valley High School aren't cutting class.
Youth violence will be discussed this afternoon at a previously scheduled forum by various members of the Antioch community, including police, local clergy, City Councilman Reggie Moore, the NAACP and the REACH project, which works with local teenagers.
"I'm going to have to sit down. This is such a shock," Moore said after being told by The Chronicle today of the slaying.
"This really will redouble my efforts to bring together various stakeholders of the community to solve this problem," Moore said. "We're looking to bring together a broad-based coalition to have an open, frank discussion. We want to talk about what we can do to bring hope and opportunity to get the children off the street and get them focused on more positive things in life."
The forum will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center, 213 F St. in Antioch.
Anyone with information in the slaying is asked to call Detective Tony Morefield at (925) 779-6931 or Detective Mike Franzen at (925) 779-6932.

Bing, thanks for the article, I was going to mention that I heard an update this morning: that he was 16 and died at the hospital.
I'm curious if Star 1 (local sheriff's helicopter) got called out to look for the two dudes seen running from the scene. I'm going to assume they didn't call out the Reach helicopter (medical transport to John Muir trama ctr) because the EMTs recognized his non-living condition when they got there.

Yeah....I work for REACH. Our Concord ship (big red Agusta A109A) is pretty busy with scene calls this time of year (auto accidents and these type of calls). Too bad for the kid. Mandatory gun content - I just finished my first AK build ;).

s*** pisses me off. my GF lives like down the street from there. Theirs always dumb *** hoodlums loitering in that shopping center giving people crap acting like they own the place. They should seriously issue instant loitering tickets to people standing around in the parking lot and kick everyone out of there thats not using the center for its purpose. I see kids just standing around in there all the time acting like retards and trying to intimidate people that are just trying to shop. Something needs to be done for this place.
really ticks me off that people can be this stupid and do this type of crap.

You work for REACH ehh? I was airlifted by your company after my bike accident. More than likely I would have been paralyzed if I had to be driven in an ambulance thru rush hour traffic from where I was to Highland Hospital. You guys do a great job, but 10 grand for the chopper ride (my first) is a little much!
Accident was 11/05 and more than likely it was the concord ship that swooped me up.

Yeah, a friend of mine used to work at Buchanan Field, I think he gassed up planes or something. He'd always be listening to the radio, and he said that REACH helicopter is always so busy afternoons and evenings, and most of the time they get halfway to where they're going and they get the call to turn around, don't bother.

Yeah, right now I'm living a mile or two from there too. Seems like it started with a group of a dozen or so morons who would sit around at that coffee shop (is it a starbucks?) for hours upon hours. The parking lot would be choked from all their damn cars parked there. Those guys were the import street racer types, and they'd always have their hoods open, gasping at each other's purple spark plug wires. And you know that they all came one person to a car, to make parking worse. These days it's a different group. A different look, a different style of dress, different mannerisms, different speech patterns. Elevated noise and rowdiness. Much larger groups, and spread over the whole shopping center, from Burger King on the east to Gas City and Carls Jr on the west.
Sickeningly ironic is that one of my friends who was with me at the time had a question for a cop, something about his sister getting hassled. We said "hey, let's go down to Regal, there's always a cop there." Actually, there wasn't, until 10 mins after we got there, and those ones were busy.

I'd have to agree, that shopping center is full of blight on weekend nights. It was bad enough that the gang element took over the Brenden theater in Pittsburg, now they are taking over the Regal. Soon there won't be a local theater that we can feel safe going to.
Antioch PD needs to do something about the ricer punks too. Not only in the Regal parking lot, but over at Slatten Ranch (Target shopping center) as well. Just about every night there is a group of fools there revvin up their 90hp  Civics and RSXs and doing donuts in the parking lot. Then when they get bored wasting $3.11/gallon doing that they decide they want to drag race down Lone Tree and Canada Valley Rd. I've almost been hit three times turning left onto Lone Tree by some jack***** doing 70 through a red light.

Where are the Mall Ninjas when you need them??????
It all boils down to the owners of the mall. Here's what Hercules PD does that I think hits the pocketbook of the mall owners. Everytime PD has to respond to a disturbance call, the send a bill to the owners of the mall. If the bills are not paid, the city puts a lien on the property so they can't sell.
I actually thought it was the dumbest idea at first. But it works. They have a similar ordinance on private homes, too. That really makes homeowners walk the extra mile in checking the background on their tenants.
The shopping areas around Hercules are now patrolled by Mall ninjas in their black & white Caprices. Tactically, they are well equipped:D. Bottom line is that these guys get the job done.
In Pinole, the shopping areas are covered by remote surveillance cameras & the Pinole PD are really strict about loitering.

They are completely ignorant to the fact that if the kid had been white, he most likely would not have gotten himself shot in a stupid street brawl in the first place. It is unfortunate that black-on-black crime is such a way of life in some neighborhoods.

If the ambulance came late soley because the kid was black I say we do the Antioch black community a solid and let the shooters walk. last thing we want to do is put another black guy in jail. it's bad for the community's image.
