View Full Version : Schuemann Barrel Group Buy

This GB is born out of the KT Ordnance 1911 GB for those that need barrels, however, it is open to everyone and anyone.

As of right now this is a preliminary count of who would be interested. I have not spoken to Schuemann yet as I want to have a rough idea of numbers to provide them. They may limit us to only a couple models of barrels but let's reserve speculation until I idea of what we're dealing with and speak with them.

Visit Schuemann (https://www.schuemann.com/Default.aspx) find your barrel model(s) you want and post them up. I'll be tracking with a spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkwAvX_lkCB0dGozeGl4a2JXMFI1cTkxNjZ3QVpkW mc) and post it prior to calling for you to verify you're on it. I'm traveling next week on business so I will be calling Schuemann on the 24th or 25th to discuss the numbers that have been posted and to get pricing info and details of what they can provide. The window for the GB will run for approx. 2 weeks once I get pricing and post the final terms of the buy and payment would be due within 2 weeks after the close of the GB.

Update: The GB is ON! See post #33
Update: Payment and Shipping Info See post #56

The Group Buy is now CLOSED!

Thanks!

I'm interested in two, but I'm still deciding on which two :)

I might get more, depending on the price. With a good price, I might as well put those barrels into some other frames I'm planning to build.

I see a lot of ramped barrels...for a first time builder, I'm curious if ramped barrels offer improved reliability over non-ramped? Don't they take additional work to fit to the frame? Sorry if these are simple questions that are answered elsewhere; feel free to point me somewhere to RTFM.
Thanks.

Most ramped barrels indeed require milling on the frame to fit unless the frame came pre-cut for a particular type of ramp. The Schuemann site shows what the different types are. Also, once you have a frame cut for one type of ramp you can't usually interchange it with another. I have two frames that have been sitting and waiting for several years for me to be kind and get parts to finish them. I made both frames with Clark/Para Ord. ramp-cuts from day 1 with the Schuemann barrel in mind.

They don't catalog exactly what I want so I sent them an email asking if they can make what I want (5.5" two port lug .40 cal short chambered, non-ramped).

If they can do it, I'll buy one barrel.

If the price is really good for a 5" .45 non-ramped bushing barrel I might pick up another.

I received a response from Schuemann this evening.

"We were at the SHOT SHOW all last week in Las Vegas and we returned to series of snow and ice storms. There are ALOT of downed trees and power lines with interrupted power service, phone service and internet to boot. The shop in not on line and I will return emails as soon as possible."

I hope to hear something by week end.

I spoke with Mike at SHOT and he was expecting some delays in business due to weather. Scheumann barrels are the best barrels for 1911/2011 handguns.

The clarp/para ramp is easier to cut and offers more surface area for the barrel and frame to mate. Both clark/para and wilson/nowlin are fine, I have 1911's and 2011's with both and neither show signs of wear more or less than the other. If you have a clark/para ramp and a wilson/nowlin barrel the barrel can be fit to the clark/para ramp cut if you know what you're doing. I do not enjoy fitting barrels very much and I send my frames out for ramp cuts as I have a very capable friend that can do them far better than I can

Ok, good news! I was able to speak w/ Schuemann Barrels and work out the details. Due to our agreement I am unable to post the pricing and ask that you do the same but I can say that with the quantity we have it will be nice!

I will send a PM to those who have posted here on the discount. I have posted a spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkwAvX_lkCB0dGozeGl4a2JXMFI1cTkxNjZ3QVpkW mc) of what I have taken from the posts above. If you need to make changes let me know via PM. Several of you have expressed interest but not provided a type.

If you want to get in on the buy and haven't posted yet do so here, don't PM me. I am taking count from what is posted here.

Due to power issues with the shop, the buy may be split into 2 orders, one that can fulfilled from current stock on hand and another that will take more time as he will have to machine them. I am sending him the spreadsheet to review and he will let me know what he can do based on what people want.

This Group Buy is now ON!
I will close the requests on 2/29.
Payment MUST be received by 3/16 as orders w/o accompanying payment will not be processed.
I will update with a payment address and additional required for shipping. Barrels will ship to me and I will in turn ship out.

A Colt officer barrel is actually a bull barrel with a .694" diameter and uses a bushing for lock up. This a cost effective (old manufacturing methods) way of doing it but since the officer has a shorter cycle length the barrel needs more clearance.

The Nubbin configuration is a bull barrel with a .760" nubbin end to it which eliminates the need for bushing and give the officer more clearance during cycling. It also adds static weight to the front of the gun and gives it a better feel. It also looks pretty great too. Email me and I will send you a photo of one of mine (before and after) mike@ussteelshoot.com

Un-Ramped barrels are used for the 45 ACP which has the ramp built into the frame. Normally they are perferred for the 45 ACP unless you have alloy frame or are hanging a suppressor off of it. Or some just like ramped barrels:)

The ramped barrels are stronger since they have much more material and are required for the higer pressure rounds such as the 40 S&W, 38 Super, and 9MM. If you have mounted a suppressor and during use you crack it against a wall or something it is less likely to crack the lower lugs. For normal use I personally like the unramped version.

But if you need to use a ramped barrel and you have an unramped frame it can be easily converted to use a ramped barrel.

MadRiverArms
02-16-2012, 9:32 AM
So the KTO frames that most of the GB members here are using would require machining in order to accept a ramped barrel?

Hi DGoodale / Decoy,

DGoodale, I'm assuming these will be "hard fit" like Les Baer might install them. Have you made any plans for fitting these barrels? Will there be a barrel fitting meet in Elk Grove?

Decoy, if an adventuress asked a kinda crazy question would you play alone?

Can a 6" Schuemann ported/compensated barrel be installed in a 5" 1911 45 acp, much like the Clark 460 Rowland (without the large comp)?

Can a bull barrel be installed in a standard 5" 1911 45 acp that was made for a busing?

The idea is to have a 45 acp that can also shoot hot +P+ rds and 460 Rowland-type loads, with the correct springs!

I do not believe the Clark Rowland barrel is hard fit, maybe stronger in some way, and with the compensator (and needed).

Something I would also like to do is install a 4 3/4 - 4 1/2" ported (cut down 5" bull barrel) in a Kimber Pro Carry HD SS 45 acp. It could still go into a holster.

Many Thanks, I know, Newbie's and there questions! It's how I learn stuff. Thanks

Decoy
02-16-2012, 11:58 AM
I'm a newbee too!

Per the website the LS45CNM0 is a 6" barrel with a 5" lockup, that means it is designed to fit and function in a 5" slide but it will hang out 1" past the slide. If you plan on chambering a barrel to something different it is best to start with a short chambered barrel and not to rechamber a AET.

A bull barrel can be fit to a bushing slide, the diameter of the bull barrel takes the place of the bushing once it is removed. You need to replace the reverse plug to capture the guide rod correctly.

Not sure about why you would want to cut down a barrel for the Kimber, what size of slide does that have? I have a 5" gun with a 6" LS barrel that still fits into my bladetech holster, just opened the hole up a little.

Thanks, You're smarter than me. The Kimber Carry Pro HD SS has a 4" bull barrel. Thought if I put a slightly longer barrel maybe a few f/s faster and the porting to get the barrel down for a faster recovery. Nice to know I can replace a 5" kimber barrel with a 6".

Any chance you guy's will do a EGW group buy?

Decoy, in you picture of the Bull vs Nubbin, is there a difference in the rotation (CW or CCW) of the rifling? What advantage does the Nubbin barrel offer (and in the above case replacing the bull barrel)? Can the Bull or Nubbin be a little longer (4 1/2-4 3/4") for a 4" (Bull) barreled Kimber? Many Many Thanks

Payment and shipping Terms

The shipping terms of this group buy are as follows:
Schuemann will make at least 2 shipments to me. The first shipment will be for the barrels he can fulfill from stock on hand. The second and subsequent shipments will be for barrels he must manufacture. These shipments can take 3 weeks or more. I will keep you apprised once the order is placed if you have a barrel that will not be in the first shipment.

I will close the requests on 2/29.
Payment MUST be received by 3/16 as orders w/o accompanying payment will not be processed.
If all payments are received prior to 3/16, after the close of the buy, I will place the order earlier.

The total cost of this group buy is predicated on the cost of your barrel minus the discount that was sent to you in a PM, plus shipping costs.

The shipping costs are as follows:
Priority shipping plus delivery confirmation to you is $9.00 regardless of the number of barrels. This includes the fee for Schuemann to ship the barrels to me for distribution.
If you want insurance on your package there are two options:
Opt 1. Additional $5.00 for up to $300
Opt 2. Additional $8.25 for up to $600

USPS has a pretty good track record but the ownness is on you whether you trust them with your package. Your purchase of insurance is not required. No warranty or liability is assumed by me if USPS fails to do their job. It sounds harsh but it is an unfortunate reality. If there is an issue I will assist or initiate as necessary to find a resolution. There is very little in this GB for me other than the discount on the barrel.

Payment can be made by DISCREET Paypal + 3.5% of the total(that includes shipping fees) or by money order(preferred). If you send a payment as a gift w/o the 3.5% it will be rejected. Select "Goods" option from the "Purchase" tab.
Which ever method you choose please include the model number(s), indicate insurance opt 1 or 2 if desired and a ship to address.

Send MO payment to:

or

Hi all,
I've got a question for the guys here buying a ramped GC45CNM4 instead of the non ramped GC45UNM4, why? Is it for reliability or are you building a multiple caliber gun? I'm looking at getting the ramped GC45CNM4 because the Colt blue Gov 45 I got from my dad has been over dremeled in the barrel and the ramp.

Do I get it welded and reshaped or go for the ramped barrel? Anyone know the cost difference?

I know this question has been asked a lot but I value your choice in the Shumann barrels so I figure why not ask. I will mainly use this gun for target and home defense. I might be interested in the 9mm shumann in the future if it is not to hard to change out. I'm guessing I will need a new slide for that?.?.

Thanks for the help deciding,

Just a reminder that payment needs to be received by Thursday 3/15. If it's not in the mail yet, better use PP.

Thx!

did someone just pay me through PP? there's no name or handle on the payment. No address either so I guess i get to keep it

Ok, I've now received 2 payments via Paypal from people who haven't identified themselves with their CGN handle or barrel model. The payments do not match any records I have. Please send me a PM with your info!!

All monies have been received and reconciled against the order. I have sent the order to Schuemann and will be following up with a phone call.

The total stats are 24 people ordering 42 barrels. :2guns:
No more orders will be accepted.

I'll post again after I speak w/ Schuemann.

this is my first Group Buy.... thanks..this seems to be running smooth. Although I did not participate in the KT/lower frame... I'm planning to build a new upper slide/barrel for an existing 1911 (Para-frame/double stack).

now in search for a slide and the component parts.:43:

The first shipment of barrels was sent out yesterday and the remaining barrels go to heat treatment this Friday with a planned ship date of 4/4. Once the package arrives and I reconcile with with orders I'll get them shipped out.
I am out of town this weekend and cannot promise that I can get them turned around before I leave. I'll notify everyone of what shipment they're in once I get it sorted.

No problem, but curious why mine went out on the second shipment if it was in stock and paid very early.

Again, just curious. I can't do anything with it until my slide arrives.

Unfortunately you are the only one that ordered a GB45CNM4 and he didn't send one in the first shipment. It appears that he may have pulled some barrels from our first conversation that he indicated he had in stock to fulfill a standing order he had in hand. No data.

Good morning! The remaining barrels of lead spitting goodness have left the building. You should all receive your barrels by Wednesday I would imagine. With that, this concludes the Schuemann barrel group buy, enjoy. Those of you I have been in contact with regarding special circumstances of your barrels I will continue to provide updates as I receive them.

Thanks!
