View Full Version : OK -- I'm stuck. (Ruger MKIII bolt)

I'm trying to put the Volquartzsen bolt tune up kit in my Ruger MKIII. It consists of a new firing pin and extractor. firing pin = piece of cake.

How do I swap out the extractor??? Looks like I have to carefully push back the extractor plunger then pull out the old extractor and insert the new one. Sounds simple -- more difficult than it sounds. I'm concerned about what tool to use to depress the plunger; and how to prevent it slipping and becoming a missile that I'll never find again.

I've searched youtube for a video with no luck. Anyone have experience with this?

Hopefully this will help. Step 5 http://www.wiztechs.com/knightsrealm/guns/22-45/boltassembly/bolt_assembly.htm

Certainly does... Thanks.

Plus, I found I was missing one piece of the puzzle. To retract to extractor plunger adequately, the firing pin cross pin must either be removed or pushed far enough left (looking from the rear of the bolt) to permit adequate rear retraction of the plunger.

Bottom line -- I got it!

Kindest Regards,

Jake
