Now that San Gabriel Valley Gun Club is gone and since I don't feel like driving out to the desert, anyone want to join me at Burro Canyon? I'm not new to shooting but it's my first time there. Any pointers? Anything I should know? Hoping to do some long range, how far out does the rifle range go?

I'd go to Angeles, but I'll be going there on the 31st for the So. Cal shoot :)

Yes, the rifle range is about 200 yards. They have plans to open a 600-yard range in the future, but so far nothing has materialized.

Pointers? Well, the rifle range doesn't have any walls or baffles between the benches, so stay away from the guys with the muzzle brakes on their .50s. The sporting clay setup is, shall we say, rustic. They have private ranges, but they're only 25-100 yards, and there is a $60 minimum for using them, so it doesn't make any sense unless you're going to shoot pistols with a group.

That said, I really like Burro Canyon. It's close, it's not expensive. The range officers are friendly and easy going (and are probably shooting on the bench next to you). The folks that run the shack are always ready to give you a break and make things right. It's busy, but it never feels crowded, and I've never had to wait for a bench. Half the time when we go to shoot clays we're the only ones out there. We always have a good time when we go out there.

I also really like burro canyon but most precision shooters dont cause it only goes out to 200 yards....(which is fine for my noob precision skills). Everyone there i friendly from what Ive seen....They do get gang banger lookin dudes showing up with AK's, AR's, with hicap mags....Most of them look really young.....I highly doubt they got them before the ban but no one asks

Thanks for the help. Have any idea what they'll let you use to set up your target instead of renting a stand? Can you bring your own PVC? Cardboard box?

You can bring your own target stands. People shoot bowling pins, potatos, clay pigeons and anything that that doesn't leave a mess. They used to allow metal reactive targets but I don't believe so anymore due to fire concerns.

I've seen all sorts of stuff out on the range, never seen the ROs complain about it. Clays, spinners, bowling pins, fruit set up on wood blocks. I don't think they care as long as it's not a ricochet hazard and you clean up after yourself.

I'd join you on Saturday, but I already have a date with some river rock veneer and about 120 pounds of mortar. (We're doing some work on the house.)

Do you have to worry about people stealing your stuff.... at San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, I never had to worry about that....

Burro is very nice. I've been a member there for three years. If your using the benches to shoot from you should park as close to where your shooting just to keep an eye on your vehicle anyway. Never had a problem with anyone stealing. I don't shoot on the weekends. I prefer Mondays or Thursdays ( any day but the weekends). One reason I chose Burro over San Gabriel was the use of the Private Ranges..... I practice drawing from the holster and like the privacy. The flexibility of having a private range so you can move from pistol to long gun then pull out your skeet thrower is great. Burro will be building another 18-private ranges in the near future. Hope that helps....

Will the THR and sigforums guy have their own private tac range? If not you guys might consider joining us ARFCOMER at the new upper PRIVATE range on the west side of Burro Canyon. Ask the front office and they'll point you our way.
