Howa M-1500. You can usually get a scope rifle package for about $450 at turners. I'm thinking of getting the tactical setup they have. Its an OD green varmiter stock, better nikki sterling glass with side focus and a heavy barrel. They have it in 223 and 308 for Under $750. I had an m-1500 and loved it. I only sold it because the BRD bug bit me pretty hard.

Uh, kinda depends on what you already have. Bolt or semi, new or old? I just got a Tikka T3 Lite in 22-250. Sweet little rifle that won't break the bank.

22-250 is cool and all but it has a bit of a reputation as a barrel burner as do many of the really fast cartridges.

How about a nice battle rifle. An M1A with a nice walnut stock. Should run about $1500.

Well, I'm not suggesting the same caliber but mainly the rifle. Besides, that reputation started before the advent of better barrel steels and it's not like you always have to shoot loads exceeding 4000fps.

Let's see - a couple of SKSs, an M1 Garand, a 10/22, an M1 Carbine. All of the above are quality, fun and should be in every gun owner's stable. And you should have money left over in your budget for magazines/clips and ammo. :)

I would go with a M1-A standard if I was you. They shoot far and they are accurate out of the box. If your tired like me scope it. But you do not have to.

Or a Marlin Camp 9 or 45 <--- fun as heck!

Or buy a over-under shotgun and shoot skeet/trap/clays, also a lot of fun.
