I currently have a belt holster and find it really uncomfortable to hike with. I carry a fishing and hunting license and am allowed to have the gun in specific areas. Maybe a really comfortable shoulder harness would be better?

Ideas?

A Chest rig for just a handgun?

What kind of holster and belt are you using? If you are using a soft belt, that might be your problem right there.

Maybe I used the wrong words. A shoulder harness?

Oh..yeah a shoulder holster is much different than a chest rig. I would think hiking in a shoulder holster would subject the firearm to sweaty conditions.

Are you wearing a good sturdy belt though? It really does make a lot of difference.
