View Full Version : Thinking about converting .40 p226 into 9mm

So I have my early 2000s non rail and I'm thinking about permanently converting it into a 9mm. Mainly cause I will end up buying another .40 railed p226 in the near future.

So is possible for me to pretty much take off slide from older or newer sigs and assemble with my frame? I saw that sig has brand new conversion slides for sale. My plan is basically putting up an ad in the classifieds and see if anyone else wants to convert their gun by exchanging slides and mags with me. Thoughts?

Thanks, guys! Merry Christmas !

So you want to do a 9mm conversion kit and part out the 40 S&W parts.

Best luck on this endeavor,

Why just leave your p226 .40 alone and buy a p226 9mm with light rail. You are probably needing the one with rail for HD. But a 9mm HP is sufficient IMO.

thre is nothing wrong with 9mm, I just prefer .40 a little more :)

Sell it, or put up a WTT and maybe you’ll get a nibble for a direct trade. No reason to spend that money in converting it, IMO.

I say convert and keep the other slide.

You can try to put it in the marketplace, but from my journeys on there, 40s&w doesn't sell well and neither do Sigs, unless it's at an extraordinarily unbeatable price.

Or you can buy a railed .40, railed 9mm and get a .357 Sig barrel for your non railed 226

Good luck

it says it's only for .22 frame p226, I think.

Also I did a thread search

2 people said that it doesn't work that way if you swap out the slide :/ nvd, might as well just buy one or trade it.

Not sure why you need to trade out the whole slide? You can get a bar-sto drop in barrel and convert you 40 to a 9 anytime you want.

Wow that's awesome. Except it says it fits only 70% out of time into the slide/frame. Any reviews?

Hi Pluv,

Everything I've read on them have been great. No one has mentioned needing any material removed from the barrel. But it doesn't look like it would be very much to have TopGunSupply perform the work on it.

Never the less, I pick up my new Sig p226 .40 this week and the 9mm barrel will be my first addition for it.

My brother has a newer .40 S&W P226, and bought the 9MM slide/barrel/mag kit for $299, and it all fits up great. You just have to remember to keep your rounds separated so you don't cross load them into the wrong mags. They also offer the same setup in .22LR and .357 Sig.

Double check your measurements, the 9mm and 40 cal frames are different. 40 to 357 sig is GTG because those use the same frame.

You are right, it's just that barsto barrel is just as thick as the .40, it just fits the 9mm round.

I think I should be more patient, I just miss shooting 9mm lol.

Mike, I called VA two weeks, still back ordered :/

i was just looking into this today before this thread.. on sigtalk or sigforum, they discussed that you can do it with a barsto barrel but had to be a specific one. ill see if i can find the thread again.

above is just one of the links i found. quickly browsed a few other hits and they all say, aftermarket conversion barrels will work fine, only oem may or may not work. no slide change, no recoil spring change, etc. just straight barrel swap.
