I just don't understand why its not ok to have an sks with a detachable mag, its the same damn layout as an M1A. Is it because the sks is listed by name? Help me obi wan kanobi, you're my only hope.

Yes. SKS with detachable magazine is listed by name.

You shouldn't have one because an SKS with a detachable mag is an abomination :)

Can't you just use a Yugo M59 or CA-compliant Yugo M59/66. You can't find "SKS" stamped on either rifle.

Should be ok, same reasoning as OLL's work: if it's not stamped on the receiver, it ain't one.

That said, not only does it look stupid, but they feed poorly and don't fit in pouches well. Stripper clips are much faster.

I thought this thread was dead, along with my hopes and dreams.

Actually, Bill and I believe Gene have chimed in that it is perfectly legal.

The SKS was made by Norinco, and I believe Tula.
The Yugo 59/66 is not an SKS... it is simply an SKS-pattern rifle, in the same way that an Arsenal or Saiga is an AK-pattern rifle.

My sks is still russian, so I'm screwed on that front. But like my sig says, I'm looking for a barreled action. I wish ANYONE would ship one into CA.
