View Full Version : Inexpensive Option for AR Style Stock for 870

I want to use an AR type stock on a Remington 870. I know Mesa Tactical and Cavalry Arms makes one, but the price is almost the cost of a 870. If I have no option, I may break down and order one of the above. But, before I do so, I was hoping there is "cheaper" alternative. If there are no other option, which is better?

If you dont mind recoil. ATI stock m4 style.
Mesa sells a cheaper adaptor. I think its 60 or 70 bucks, its called the LEO version.

Not sure what your budget is, but here's a few options:
Knoxx SpecOps w/no recoil reduction $65.
Knoxx SpecOps (what I have) - $105, although I also ordered the Limbsaver for SpecOps p/n: 18005 $30.
The amount of recoil reduction is extremely impressive... A bunch of buddies and I went off for the weekend for target shooting... several hundreds of rounds later, I won the most popular shotgun award, as everyone enjoyed shooting my gun. Due to reduced recoil, and adjustable length.
The usual places carry these, Cabelas, Cheaperthandirt, etc... the Limbsaver for SpecOps is direct from Knoxx though.
Have fun!

I really gotta try the Knoxx SpecOps. I know this is a bad reason to dislike something, but I always thought it looked bad (ugly). I guess the thing that makes it ugly is also the thing that makes it effective at reducing felt recoil.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm looking more into the "high tube" version from Mesa, as I can't find anything that looks reliable and "cheaper". I'm going with the high tube or a simple pistol grip Speed Feed.

Shoot a shotgun with a Knoxx stock and you won't want anything else.
I guess I'd have to shoot one.... Cause I personally don't like how they look.

Function is more important, but it doesn't hurt to try and look for both :)

joel1316 - perhaps I was confused... I looked up Mesa Tactical, and found the attached 6.jpg, on their site. I also uploaded a picture of my own stock for comparison. My only assumption is you don't like the synthetic vs. steel?
DedEye - a buddy of mine runs a Remington 870 with the Knoxx Compstock
http://www.knoxx.com/NewStyleKnoxx/Products/Compstock.htm - he also was enjoying the Knoxx recoil reduction - with a more traditional stock.

I guess I'm just leaning towards the Mesa.....
Regarding the Knoxx type stocks, I read that if you use a Surefire forend and your grip is too far forward. Your hand/grip could be pushed forward into the bulb section of the flashlight when firing???
