View Full Version : 6.8 muzzle brake issue

For those of you that have gone to the 6.8 SPC upper, here is something you might be interested in. I purchased a 6.8 upper from Model One several months ago. Found out recently that the barrel is threaded with a 1/2 x 36 pitch. A real oddball. Consequently found that there are virtually no muzzle brakes available (maybe some of you have found a source...) in that thread pitch. After calling OPS Inc. and PRI, I was informed that PRI does offer a thread reducing insert that will adapt a 1/2x36 to a 5/8x24. The reducer is $20. One is on order. I have an OPS INC brake for my 6.5!!! Can't wait to try it on the 6.8!
If this is old news, accept my appology. If this is useful info..... go for it!

Make sure the bullet will clear it. Also PRI does make a 6.8 muzzle break.

That threading difference is done for safety so you don't put a 5.56 muzzle device on a 6.8 gun!

Thanks, Bill. I understand that. The issue is availability of a 1/2x 36 threaded muzzle brake. Any ideas will be appreciated!

Stag's 6.8 brake uses 1/2 x 36. Wes stocks them.

That is an oddball threading for 6.8, which is usually 5/8 x 24
