DBAL-A2 AN//PEQ-15A U.S. DoD Model

They are not usually for sale to us non-MIL people as they have a 200mw laser that can very effectively burn out our eyes.

If you do manage to get a hold of one then make sure *everyone* around you is wearing anti-laser eye protection as a 200mw infrared beam can burn out your eyes without you even being able to see the beam.

KAC and I'm sure some other companies make a mount for it. But if you truly think it's worthless I will pay shipping if you wanna get rid of it (in my mailbox) ;)

So then i shouldn't mount my handheld 1W blue laser on the AR? lol

There are a couple of different ones

AN/PAQ-4C

http://www.ordnancemarine.com/2171/graphics/e0955.png

Largely phased out of service - it was an aiming laser, no illuminator

http://www.ownthenight.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/webassets/anpeq_2.jpg

AN/PEQ-2 - has a aiming light like the PAQ-4C but also included a laser illuminator that worked as an IR flashlight that increased visibility and could be used to illuminate targets ect for your joes or supporting units.

AN/PEQ-15: current issue for US Army, replacing both the PAQ-4C and PEQ-2. Has the same features as the PEQ-2 in a smaller package with a visible laser as well.

AN/PEQ-16: current issue for US Marine Corps - everything the PEQ-15 does but throws in a visible white light as well.

Just be careful you get a legal one. Most of these are classified IR laser/illuminators for MIL/LEO only. While not illegal to own, they are restricted for purchase. However, there are now lower-power Class 1 civilian versions available - just make sure that's what you're looking for.

The point of them is to be able to aim in the dark, since using NVG makes it impossible to get a good cheek weld and look down the rifle optic. So, before you purchase, make sure you have the funds to purchase NVG to go along with the package.

Laser Devices has released a lower power IR unit for civilian use. It's been out for several months now.

Question? Why want one? Are you going to be laser designating targets for air support? It isn't a point and shoot laser, they are meant for marking targets.

maybe I am!
When I cant hit my zombie target at 25yds at the local range I will call up one of my buddies in the Air Force for some close air support to target my laz' so I dont look stupid :D

Aiming lasers can be used to signal airstrikes and what not, but what they are most useful for is they allow you to do like Starsnuffer said - aim at your target when you are using your NODs when you can't aim with your primary sight.

here's a video of me messing around with my PVS7Ds and PEQ-15 at the range shooting without trying from the hip at a little steel target from 100m, and hitting most of the time. If I take my time and support my weapon better I can hit 100% of the time.

Actually no, they're meant for shooting while wearing a night vision device.

Units with visible laser can also be used as a back up aiming device should your primary sighting system fail. Much faster than transitioning to your irons.

As stated below your question, they ARE meant for targeting through NVG's. Infact you can adjust windage and elevation....

The older ones have the IR laser flood, which is great for pig hunting at night!

But remember it is illegal to hunt with IR assistance, you can use a night vision scope as long as there is no IR booster or IR assistance. If you do manage to find a night shooting range or own some property, it has a use!
