I find plenty of data on nominal an max but nothing on the minumum case length for .308 Winchester.

I seemed to have trimmed a few a bit under 2.015 target:o. Anybody have that number?

Found something on reloadersnest.com. 8 year old post says 2.005. Anybody dispute that?

Although those are short I don't think you're going to have a problem with it. You could load those last and just change your die to set them not as deep to offset it. As long as your OAL with the bullet is around the nominal you'll be fine.

2.005 min & 2.015 max is what I've read.

I don't reload, but I've been reading up on it for a while and intend to start next year. So this advice is worth what you paid for it.

I trim to 2.005 or as close to that as I can get. If they end up a couple of thou shorter or longer its ok.

IIRC min is 1.990, max is 2.015, trim is 2.005 according to book.

You'd just load them like the others. There is no point in changing the die because they are already set, the OAL wouldn't change. The only thing that would change is the amount of case neck making contact with the bullet, or if he is loading and then crimping, the crimp wouldn't be consistent with the other longer casings.

Doh. You're right. He got me thinking too hard. Just freaking load 'em up!

That makes more sense. 2.005/2.015 seemed a little tight.

Thanks all. Good info.

My Lee Trimmer gets them to 2.008 min. I usually let them run to about 2.018. They still function fine in my DPMS barrelled 7.62x51mm rifle. I guess I don't like to trim that often as it gives me about another 3 loadings before trimming again.

This is why I love my X dies even though I use a RCBS trim pro.
