View Full Version : Young MFG 308 Bolt Carrier Issues

12-16-2011, 2:49 PM
Picked up a Young 308 carrier for my 308 build.

All seemed fine. Put 260 rounds through the gun. All worked 100%. Not a single failure.

I strip everything down to find 1 busted gas ring, a marred one, and a good one. You can see the busted one lines up perfectly with the 3 vent holes. Those 3 holes are so close together, that they overlap. This creates a very wide unsupported area for the gas rings. You can see in the third pic, where the metal was pushed up by the gas rings being forced up into the cavity.

I have since installed the McFarland one piece gas ring. Will see how it works out this weekend.

I emailed Young MFG twice with no response. Anyone else run this carrier?

If I were to run standard gas rings, I wouldn't put any of the gaps near the vent holes.
