Ar15 newbie here...

Thinking of swapping only the upper receiver and reusing all the other parts. The original upper is plastic. Is there anything I should look for or is it a straight swap?

Thanks.

What do you have newb? A rimfire S&W or Colt?

Could be a bushmaster carbon 15. Not sure if it has special parts to it. ie barrel nut. I do not think they have forward assist so you would have to get those parts or build a slick side.

Some of those carbon 22lr AR pattern rifles are not made to AR-15 specs so they cant be swapped around.

sell it and just get a new upper. Not worth investing in all the tools required if you're only going to do it once.

I will say it in a more polite way: what upper do you have?

and yes truth be told it is probably more worth while to just purchase or build a new upper if the one in question is plastic

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry, forgot the details. It was actually for a friend. It is a bushmaster carbon 15. He has the stripped upper already and thinking of just moving all the parts ie: barrel, gas system... for now. Ammobros quoted him $65 for the swap. Is it worth it?

Thanks,

John

here you go. just do everything in reverse for disassembling it. be careful when your wrenching on that plastic upper if you don't want to break it
