What's the legality of an MM with that Magpul stock?

I'd hate to see a DA bring in someone with a big hand and have them wrap it around the grip.

I sure hope Coldwar sends mine soon!!!! I plan on putting it on a Magpul PRS setup as well.

There is no way to get a pistol style grip and it has been agreed that because the PRS is longer then an a2 stock it is not considered a collapsible stock. I've had a LEOs admire and shoot that rifle with no problems.

Hey MM,

Good looking AR!

Is that a Thread Protector Cap on your barrel? I'm thinking about a featurless build with MM grip, A2 stock, and no Comp/brake.

Thanks,

I'll post pics of mine tonight when I get home.

The biggest thing I like about the new MM grip is that it feels much sturdier than the old one. The old one felt sturdy, but it did feel like it'd snap if you dropped the gun just exactly right. The main thing that impresses me about the new one, is how solid it feels. It's one of those things you don't notice until you've felt the new one.

That, and it feels like you could just hold the gun with one hand and not have it slip away from you. I'll have to take some pics of a hand gripping it to illustrate what I mean here...

I know its a bad pic but you get it.

Double star lower
MM sample grip
Del-Ton custom upper
YHM flip front
A.R.M.S 40L rear
YHM mid FF hand guard
Bushnell trophy MP red dot (Cheap and works great)
Stag Comp (Wes was right this thing way loud)

Edit: I am such a dumb A#*. How do you guys get your pictures up on your main post. I see you can use photobucket butthat a pain.

Speaking of going shooting, I'll be running a SD-area demo of the new MMG at Iron Sights at some point in the next couple weeks. I'll also have a U-15 stock for side by side comparison as well. In my opinion, both of them are good - they just serve for different kinds of builds for different shooters.

I'll make a thread later on when the details are hashed out.

Where are the gaps? Every receiver I have tried it on fit fine. Now you got me curious. What brand lower is it?

The arch on top of the fin was designed to fit the smallest arch I could find. Colt had the smallest that I found. So when I put the grip on my Stag or CMMG, there is a bit more space (16th of an inch) between the grip and the lower receiver in that arch area. But on the Colt or Bushmaster it touches.

I want to see pics please.

Thanks for the fit reports. I swear I did my research. If it doesn't fit something, it must be a rarity. I personally tested many receivers and I used a CAD file of the AR15 receiver to design this grip off of and it should fit pretty darn good.

I am sure it isn't perfect, but hey, compared to that homemade version, it is pretty good right?

Well lets get on with the show and see some more pics. :D

You have to trim down the fin a little to make it fit. I have seen people use them with the entry stock. The fin was designed to fit the A2, so it sticks up a bit to much for the entry stock. Doesn't take much with a dremel to just take some of the fin down. Just work slow and keep checking to make sure you are not taking to much off.

If you try out the A1 stock, take some picks of it with the MMG on. People keep asking me what the MMG looks like with the A1 stock. Also mention how much work was required for the fitting of the MMG to the stock.

You know what I was just thinking as I removed my bullet button from a build after installing my MM grip. I actually prefer shooting this way. Not because of the magazine thing and being easy to remove without using a tool or being able to use my high caps, I just like the way it feels better. Maybe I have been shooting with my MMg to long but a real pistol grip just does not feel right anymore.

All,

So awhile back when I went to my MM Grip build from my fixed mag w/ a telescoping stock I was having trouble with the reach w/ the A2 stock. Arms were fine it just seemed like my neck wasn't quite long enough to get a good sight picture. So someone mentioned that the A1 stock was .5" shorter and that maybe I should try that. So I found a surplus stock, ordered the shorter stock screw and off I went.

First I just laid the mmg grip against the A1 stock to see how much modification I was in for.

The A2 stock is on the top and the A1 on the bottom (I only have one buffer tube so I just pushed it all together).

http://www.one-ring.net/pics/mminitial.jpg

It looked like it was going to mate up perfectly w/ no modifications required. So I went ahead and swapped out the buffer tube and tightened everything down.

http://www.one-ring.net/pics/mmuncut.jpg

It was pretty close but the MM grip was flexing a little. It's hard to see in the picture there was definitely some deflection there. Not much but I didn't want to stress the grip and potentially have a failure so out came the dremel.

I basically took off about 1/16" along most of the fin. You can see where it's dull is where I removed material. Just take your time, remove a little, test the fit, remove a little, test the fit.

http://www.one-ring.net/pics/mmcut.jpg

And here it is in final trim. This is a VERY easy mod. It's such a small amount of material you could do it w/ sandpaper if you don't have a dremel.

http://www.one-ring.net/pics/mma1final.jpg

03-16-2007, 10:34 PM
Nice work. I am glad it worked out. The grip is very very strong, so it most likely wont "fail" or anything. But it is good to have it fit tight to the receiver and trim a bit to fit the stock.

:)

Thanks. Just checked out the website. Nice! You may want to add on the AR15 page that it's designed to be used w/ an A2 stock.

And feel free to use any of my pics/writeup (I was in a hurry but could take better pics if you want) on your site if you want to have a section on modifying for the the A1 stock.

Next time I'm asked about it at the range I'll send people there!

Alright I'll play too. Sorry, I wasn't consistent with my white balance.
