www.tactilite.com is offering a AR/Lapua conversion kit. It cost $1300. Take off your AR upper, drop in your single shot, bolt action Lapua upper. For that price you can purchase a Savage bolt action Lapua. www.tactilite.com also has .416 and .50BMG coversion kit. The .416 comes in single shot, bolt action or in a semi-automatic modes.

Just want to see what people think. Cool or Fool? For buying one of these conversions.

Purpose built. Not for everyone but right for some.

.338LM is a toy round, it isn't used for anything serious inside the states, so there is nothing wrong with getting a "silly" toy. IF someone wants it, they should get it. Money is useless until spent.

Tell that to the Brit who set the world record for longest kill using a .338 Lapua Magnum. The .338LM is a serious long range round. Far from being a toy.

Pretty sure he didn't do that in the states, as per the post that you quoted.

If I was going to do a .338 AR I would go this route: http://www.onlylongrange.com/badnews.asp

That can be said for any round. We aren't at war here, so every round is a "toy" round.

You're starting to get it ;) The OP suggested that a particular weapon may or may not be "silly". The truth is they're all toys unless you're using them for work. Get what you want, silliness be damned.

Neat, but I wouldn't get one and I am in the market for a rifle for 338 lapua. Why? because I want to shoot beyond 1000 yards and that is the round to do it (ideally I want to shoot 1760 yards and beyond :D ).

If the OP is looking for something in 338 as well, I'm leaning toward a Remington 700 XCR Long range Tactical I handled a Savage 110 ba and 110 fcp and a Remington Police at Turners and was not happy with any of those.

That's interesting. They don't list .338 Lapua as an option for the XCR Long Range on the site but I have found them for sale. They are out of stock but the price was $2,400+.

Have you looked at the Armalite AR30?

Its on the 2011 Remington catalog Order No. 84463 MSRP $2,394.00

Turners says Remington and the 3 major Remington distributors are out of stock, I'm just going place a deposit and have them order.

Considered:
Armalite AR30
Savage 110BA
Savage 110FCP
Remington 700P MLR
Sako TRG42
Barrett 98B (out of price range for me)
Desert Tactical SRS (out of price range for me)
Remington 40-XS (out of price range for me)
